    Cyclone Win Predictor! (Excel Spreadsheet)

Its been a little slow around here since Mister committed and I was incredibly bored the other day so I created this Spreadsheet in Excel that is kind of personal season predictor for the upcoming football season. It basically uses elementary statistics (t scores, standard deviation, ect.) to come up with a rough estimate of how YOU believe the Cyclones will do next season and gives the likelihood of how many wins you believe they will have. The numbers that are imputed currently are my predictions but fool around with it and see what you think! The only thing that you need to change to make it work is the "Percent Chance of Winning" category for each game of the season and the chart and "Likelihood of win total" will adjust acordingly! I know that it is by no means perfect but just thought it was a fun little thing to do with some down time in Ames haha! If anyone is excel savvy, feel free to give some critiquing as I know I will get some anyway from you guys

    Enjoy!

(To use, follow the link to the google doc, then "download current version" and it will download onto you computer!)

Re: Cyclone Win Predictor! (Excel Spreadsheet)

I plugged in our historic win percentages against each of these teams and it predicts a 4 win season. The places where I see the biggest discrepancies between current expectations and historic performance, in our favor, are UNI (historic 74% winning percentage), Iowa (35%), Kansas (40%) and WVU (0%). The biggest discrepancy against is Baylor (55%). If I adjust just those games to something I think is more inline with the current teams, it puts us right back at 5.5 wins. Just like every year, we'll need a few brakes to help us get to a bowl game.

Link is OK, I just can't access it to alter anything. (May be a Google Docs problem on my end).

The defense could stand to put on the brakes a few more times but I don't think the offense should be applying them as much.

Re: Cyclone Win Predictor! (Excel Spreadsheet)

Did anyone see that Phil Steele is projecting ISU to have the next-to-worst defense in the country this year (125 out of 126 I believe)?

That surprised me. I know that ISU lost a lot, but I don't think there is less talent and experience on this year's defense than the 2009 defense (just an example).

I have just come to terms that when you are a Iowa State fan, you don't get a gift basket that includes "respect" in it
