    Horse Slaughter Approved again.

This may be an interesting Friday topic as most people have an opinion on it. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.: Fed officials approve horse slaughterhouse in NM | National | FresnoBee.com My question is why does the USDA want to continue the ban? What are you supposed to do with an older horse that is not long suitable for any commercial or recreational uses? Even if you let it die of old age you still have to legally dispose of it which can be a major ha$$el in a lot of places.

You are correct. The ban was stupid in the first place.

I vote neigh to horse slaughter.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Just a guess here... but perhaps it's because horses may be considered more of a pet then actual livestock? People don't generally raise horses for anything other then recreational riding and breeding for racing or selling... these days.

Seems to me that people have eaten horse for millennia making it safer than a lot of the relatively new processed food, chemicals and GMOs we're green lighting left and right. Is there some inherent danger in consuming horse meat (different than pork or beef) like there is with dolphin and tuna?

In addition, I'm also opposed to horse laughter.

Horses are the Jimmy Fallon of the barnyard. Always breaking character in the middle of a skit. Wipe that smile off your face, you stupid horse. Horatio Sanz is not that funny!

Definitely unintended consequences there. It is certainly better to put them down than to leave them in situations where they starve to death for lack of adequate food.

    Re: Horse Slaughter Approved again.

It was a stupid ban. People who use horses for work purposes that have say a 16-20 yr old horse, what are you suppose to do with it? We got over ran with old horses that nobody wanted to house or feed or couldnt house and feed and then you have a bunch of homeless starving horses. Better off dead.

It all comes down to horse lovers cant deal with the fact that someone can discard a horse after its served its purpose. Nawhatimsaying.

That's what I always thought. I'm sure those people's hearts are in the right place, but you've got to think through the consequences of some of these things.

No danger. But given horse's place in our modern world, for most people eating a horse would be like eating a dog or cat. You don't eat your pet... well unless its Pinchy the Lobster.
