With the baseball win, I just heard that UCLA now has 129 team national championships. Stanford is second with 104. Why have California schools done so well?

Huge population to recruit from, money, great weather for the most part, program history?

Hmm, I hadn't even thought about it that way. Do you know this as a fact? Or are you just giving a rational possibility?

Re: ISU Top 50 in Final Director's Cup

So I was bored on my lunch hour today. Here is how the conferences broke down in no particular order.

ACC - all 12 schools are in the top 100, 7 in the top 50 and 4 in the top 25.
B1G - All 12 schools are in the top 75, 11 in the top 50 and 5 in the top 25. Iowa was the one school out of the top 50
Big 12 - All 10 schools are in the top 75, 7 in the top 50 and 2 in the top 25. ISU was 4th in the conference.
Pac 12 - 11 of 12 in the top 100, 8 in the top 50 and 7 in the top 25. Ouch WSU is 192
SEC - all 14 schools are in the top 75, 12 in the top 50 and 6 in the top 25.

I did the Big East but it really isn't comparable. ND was the only top 25 school there were 7 other between 26 and 100. Best of the rest was the Ivy league with 7 of 8 schools in the top 100. Penn was the only one not in the top 100 and it was 102.

Schools that left the Big 12
    Nebraska - 24
    Colorado - 56
    Missouri - 53
    TA&M - 5

Schools that joined the Big 12
    West Virginia - 68
    TCU - 50

    Men's water polo: Cal 13, Stanford 10, UCLA 8, USC 8, UC Irvine 3, Pepperdine 1, UCSB 1, everybody else 0.
    Women's water polo: UCLA 7, Stanford 3, USC 3, everybody else 0.
    Men's volleyball: UCLA 19, everybody else 20.

    That's 34 titles right there.

Plus UCLA has 11 men's hoops titles.
