World War Z - Movie, not the book

Saw the movie yesterday and thought it was what I would expect from a summer popcorn movie. Great action scenes (The set pieces in this movie are outstanding. Watching the swarm of zombies is pretty cool on a movie screen.), decent scares here and there, and a very quick pace. They really hammer at the end that there will be sequels, but I already knew this when reading about production on this move and what movie doesn't get a sequel nowadays?

WWZ doesn't expand the zombie genre, but I think it does well turning it into a blockbuster movie format. My hope is that they expand more on the political and social consequences in the next films like the book does. Brad Pitt also does a good job being the calm force in a chaotic world.
Oh, and for people who have read the book, let's just say the title is really all they have in common.

Overall I liked the movie, but its not something that will cause deep discussions amongst your peers.

Who else saw it, and what did you think?

Zombies aren't meant to be fast. For that reason and that reason alone I will not see this movie.

Re: World War Z - Movie, not the book

I'm going to see it tonight with the wife. I've read the book but am going into the movie with zero expectations of it being anything remotely close to it.

For those of you who haven't read the book, I highly recommend it.

Thought it was a pretty entertaining movie myself. It's been a while since I read the book, but it seems that some things that happen are related a bit to the book.

Those zombies acted nothing like the zombies I've seen in real life do, 2/10 will not watch.

Re: World War Z - Movie, not the book

I like the idea of zombieism being some type of mutated rabies, which would cause a human to act in ways seen in recent movies. Just because it doesn't conform to the classic "NOTLD" zombie, doesn't mean the idea is any more or less plausible.

I will probably go see it, but it is down the list a bit. I bet by the time I get around to it, it will already be out of the theaters based on what I have been reading.

I can accept fast zombies but I'll never accept vampires that sparkle in the sun and grow weaker with age.

Re: World War Z - Movie, not the book

The format of the book would have made a boring retrospective movie. I thought they did a phenomenal job of making a movie from the spirit of the book. Fast fun way to spend two hours.

Thats good because its not. They butcher the zombies to start, then the origin of the outbreak is moved to India to appease the Chinese I guess. Overall, not even close. Its a larger scale 28 Days Later.

I have read it over the past year, and it is not remotely the same. The one part that might be is the patient zero description. That is it.
