Just don't look down is the key to cross the Grand Canyon on a tightrope, I would pass to be honest!

I will probably watch. Niagra Falls lacked drama, I though. But it is summer TV. Will he have a safety line for this one too? If I remember right, he said he didn't want it for Niagra but the TV execs made him.

He won't have a tether or net this time. I'm not sure what changed since his last one, but they're allowing him to. Pretty crazy.

Re: Anyone going to be watching Skywire Live on Discovery tonight?

Tightrope walking with a long pole is really not all that difficult of a feat. If the pole is long enough, and is weighted sufficiently on the ends, you can lower the center of gravity below the level of the wire, which in effect makes it very difficult to fall. In fact the tendency, if pushed from the side from the wind, etc is to go back to equilibrium, which is directly above the wire.

With all that being said, this is still a pretty amazing stunt mostly because of the fear aspect. I can't even walk close to the edge of the Grand Canyon without getting very nervous. I could never walk across it even on a narrow bridge.

And it's not like you can't fall off the wire. If you take a misstep you could easily go off. So I'm not saying this is some easy task, but with a long weighted pole it's pretty hard to fall off if you know what you are doing.

I understand what you're saying, but it's still impressive. And the guy's grandpa died from falling from a tightrope making the walk even more impressive.

I hadn't heard about this until now. I will probably tune in on the ipad while watching something else. I see it's scheduled for two hours on the guide. How long will this take him? An hour?

Not that I've heard of. I thought of that too so it's possible but I think it'd be tough to use a parachute in the Grand Canyon.

I came across this just now. It's pretty cool.

So if he falls, he dies live on TV? Interesting.

I probably won't watch. If he makes it, it's boring, and if he doesn't, I don't really want to see that.

They will be on a ten second delay. He's said if he falls he's dead so I wouldn't imagine we see any wires or anything.

On another note, does anybody know when he's actually going to walk?

I've gotta think it starts shortly after this commercial break. Considering they had a 2-hour "pregame" show and the "real show" started at 7, it has to be soon.
