    SDW

After 2 games into the CCL, I'm starting to think that SDW might be next year's Tyrus McGee?

I think he comes off the bench next year to provide instant offense. Is that crazy to think that?

And no, I don't think he's as good of a shooter as McGee, but it's apparent that he can score. I think this will be the starting lineup.......

    1. Kane
    2. Thomas
    3. Hogue
    4. Ejim
    5. Niang

And then SDW is first off the bench when we need a spark.

    Re: SDW

I guess we will see but is it a given that Thomas starts in front of him? I'm not so sure. If Thomas is clearly better that is awesome b/c I think SDW is going to be good. Mcgee might be a better shooter but SDW is taller and appears to be able to get to the hoop better.

    Re: SDW

I think it depends on the chemistry, i.e., who not only shoots, but moves the ball around and keeps their teammates involved. That's one reason Georges snagged a starting role over upperclassmen.

    Re: SDW

Thomas talked about being a McGee type guy coming off screens for open 3s. This leads me to think he's isn't Ina frame of mind that he's starting or that he will be given the starting job.

Remember SDW redshirted last year so he practiced all last season against our graduating seniors and SDW even said playing against Babb made him better. He's put on 25 lbs during his redshirt. I would say he's closer to starting.

    Re: SDW

SDW is scoring more on the same team as MT in the CCL. So he should start. (somewhat sarcasm pirate)

Thomas may be the starter but the spot sure as hell won't be given to him.

    Re: SDW

I'm sure the lineup will change a lot throughout the year depending on matchups and how guys develop. If at any point in the year Fred feels he needs a more offensive lineup, I would expect to see SDW instead of Hogue. That goes the other way if he thinks they need more defense. Hogue would likely start. I personally like the Kane, Thomas, Dorsey-Walker, Ejim, Niang lineup. That is some serious offensive firepower right there, and 5 threats from deep. I'm hopeful that SDW's weight gain will help his defense. He certainly has the length and athleticism to be very good there in the long run.

    Re: SDW

I guess we never see a full game but he seems to dominate the ball and shoot more than Matt T. Not sure if that is the case though.

    Re: SDW

I get the feeling that we will have four sixth men next year.

Kane/SDW/Hogue/Ejim/Niang followed by a killer second shift of Morris/Long/Thomas/Bubu backed up by Percy/Edozie/. What we seem to lack in size we should make up for in dynamic guard play. Ejim & Niang will need to be our workhorses and try to stay out of foul trouble. To me the key for next year is keeping those two on the floor.

    Re: SDW

I look for Morris to get alot of minutes at PG, with Kane sliding over to a 2 or 3. Kane is physical enough to guard a Big12 wing. And we have seen Fred likes mismatches and being able to initiate offense with a forward sometimes, ala Clyburn or Royce. Kane can guard a 3, but some threes guarding him out top on certain offensive sets will provide the mismatch Fred exploits

That's reading WAY too far into Thomas's comment IMO. I think he's the best shooter joining the team this year so it makes sense that the coaches would try and have him fill (some of) the void left by one of the best shooters in the country. That comment was more about how Thomas would be used similarly to McGee in the offense and doesn't reflect a poor mindset about starting at all.

I think Bubu should come off the bench and be McGee 2.0!!1! I mean, haven't you seen his shooting numbers so far after 2 games in the CCL!!1!

You like it when someone dominates the ball.

Kane's versatility definitely allows Fred to play around with his lineups a bit, especially as the year goes on and these young guards mature a bit as players. I just think people need to ditch the mindset that there is one starting lineup and that's what Hoiberg is going with all year. He's shown a willingness to move the pieces around a lot and to configure playing time based on matchups with the opponent.
