Big 12 should drop championship game

Why not just have our teams sit at home (ala the Big 10) and watch the other conferences knock each other out of the BCS title game.

Valid point... Big10 should be required to add a championship game.

Re: Big 12 should drop championship game

I remember Mac saying the coaches voted 12-0 not to play the game, the university presidents voted 12-0 to have the game. I understand they make large sums of money off the game, but what does it cost when a team gets knocked out of a BCS bowl? Either every BCS conference need to play one or none of them should.

Or teams not having a conference championship should be penalized in some fashion. Like not being able to back into a title game.

Re: Big 12 should drop championship game

A few posters noted in a separate thread, NCAA rules state conferences must have 12 teams in order to have a conference title game. So even if the Big 10 wanted one, they would need another team.

I don't know that as fact and thought it was untrue, but 3 or 4 separate members stated it was the case.

Do we really want to be the Big Ten West? That's what it would be. I think the Pac 10 is the only BCS conference to not have a championship game besides the Big Televen, but they also play every team in their conference each year so it's not a big deal.

How about we go back to the Big 8, play every team, and schedule a decent NC. I am fine with that.

That would cost the conference too much $$....and thats the only thing that apparently matters in NCAA football.

I really don't like the conference championships, they pretty much have screwed the Big XII on multiple occasions.

I wonder if the big 12 would make more this year if all 3 (OU, KU & MU) get into BCS bowls or if they'd make more with one team in the Nat Champ & one other BCS team.

Anybody know the payout differentials of the "regular" bcs games verses the NC?

Then Iowa could be in the title game every year since Michigan and Ohio State would be in the East and Iowa would be in the West. I mean, those three schools are clearly heads and shoulders above the rest of the conference.

I don't think a conference should be eligable to be a BCS conference unless they have a title game.

Re: Big 12 should drop championship game

NCAA rules only allow a max of 2 teams from any one conference into the BCS, so the Big 12 can't get 3 BCS invites.

    1. Why is that a rule?

    2. Does that mean 12 team conferences "have" to play a champ game?

    3. If nothing else, if you don't have a champ game, you should be required to play your last conference game the week of the champ games.
