That is what I expect this season. We are very young as a whole, and extremely young and/or inexperienced in the Front 7 on D. If we go bowling this year it will be a great sign for the program's future.

We aren't that bad on the Dline though as far as starters. Ivring, Scott, Jenson and Woods have played a lot of football. Yes, the next 8 are young but it's not like we are starting 4 Rs Freshmen out there and freshmen are backing them up.

The problem is that guys with experience haven't shown much.

    Woods is not very good.
    Irving is very inconsistent
Jensen had a total of 8 tackles.
Scott didnt exactly light it up except for one game against a horrible KU team.

Re: My Thoughts on CPR and the Rest of Our Staff

As long as we are in the Big 12 with schools in Texas and Oklahoma it will be very hard to get recruits over them. For this reason, they will have better athletes (outside of some exceptions) and it will be very difficult to get past the 7-8 win seasons. Getting rid of Rhoads isn't going to change that.

I feel that as long as we have him we will continue to be around 7th in the Big 12 each year. To me, he just doesn't have what it takes to make us an 8, 9, or 10 win school. What does everyone else think?
I disagree, Thomas. When CPR got here we had been an "also ran" program for many, many years. He needed to immediately get rid of the stench left by Chiz and then begin rebuilding the attitudes & expectations of a lockerroom, a school, Ames, and all of Cyclone Nation. As has been said many times on here, Winning fixes everything. Having a couple of large recruiting classes redshirt will of course help get us over the proverbial hump of 6 wins with bigger, stronger bodies but more important to me is the family he is building within Cyclone football. I've seen the word "family" used in many articles about the program and heard it many times in interviews of players and coaches. Campos and Lazard are two that come to mind. Then yesterday there it was again in a story about our newest recruit, Orion Salter. Orion comes from the same private high school as J.D. Waggoner, a 2013 recruit. Orion said that he talks to J.D. almost daily as Orion's father is a personal trainer who works J.D. out back in Texas. J.D. told him that the Cyclone football program is a big family. That's how you turn programs around in my book - by first changing the culture. We may not hit 9 or 10 wins this season but I firmly believe we do get to 7 and that is the next step up this steep hill we are climbing.

We win games off of hard work. We might now have the best talent in the league but we are going to work harder than everybody else. Georges Niang 7/2013

Jensen and Scott will be just fine. Scott may have been our best DE.

I think he's right guys. On NCAA 13 it only took me a year to win a National Championship.

The DLine doesn't have to make a ton of tackles to be good. They just need to keep the OLine off of the Linebackers so they can make plays. What I would like to see is more of a push from the DLine to put some additional pressure on the QB.

How come the second anyone voices an opinion that is different than what the majority of people on this site think, they are labeled a "troll"? My god, does anybody here know what a troll really is? A fan voicing their opinion is not a troll, JFC.

Sometimes it's kidding. Sometimes it's overreaction.

This guy, though, shows all the classic signs of troll. The low post count with a thread designed around something like "CPR isn't going to get it done" or whatever this one was.

The only point of a thread like that is riling people up. It's a desperate cry for attention that smells of troll.

I will be disappointed but only concerned if we are getting killed by teams we should be in games with. If we don't get 6 wins my guess is there will be 4 of 5 games decided by a touchdown or less. Essentially, only winning 4 or 5 this year won't be concerning if we come out the next season and win 8 or 9.

I'm still optimistic about this year though. Best talent and most depth on the roster. It's a generally young team but frankly talent is more important that experience in college football right now.
