    Grills: Gas or Charcoal?

Spinoff of mj's grill thread. I prefer charcoal; the convenience of gas can't outweigh the better taste from charcoal.

    Re: Grills: Gas or Charcoal?

I used to be a 100% gasser. But since I got my smoker last year, I can appreciate the charcoal thing a little bit more.

Though no quick-light briquettes or lighter fluid or anything. That does NOT add flavor. Or not GOOD flavor, I should say

    Gas < Charcoal < Smoker

Side note...I know it's juvenile, but Yoda...that was funny.

Gas. I cook way more now that I have a gas grill, as it is quick and consistent.

    Re: Grills: Gas or Charcoal?

Get a charcoal grill or smoker with a chimney starter and that removes all of the difficulty in starting charcoal.

    Re: Grills: Gas or Charcoal?

The whole "gas is faster, I don't have time for charcoal" thing kept me using gas for way too many years... I use lump charcoal (plus the unburned charcoal from the previous grilling). Mound the charcoal up; squirt the charcoal with approximately 30 - 40 ml of 92% alcohol; and light with a match. There is no "woosh" with alcohol. Go thaw out your meat, and prep it. When you return in a few minutes, you'll have a 450 degree grill waiting to do its thing.

    I'm getting hungry..............
