    Edozie/Godfrey comparison

    NJCAA Stats

Calvin Godfrey Stats, Bio - ESPN

It might be a little wishy washy to hope Edozie can be a Godfrey-type player for us.

Minutes played/minutes per game numbers seem a little inaccurate on the njcaa website for Edozie...but I don't think he comes in and plays 20 minutes per game like Godfrey did as a freshman.

Scoring averages are about even, except Godfrey's came on a national stage against quality competition, while Edozie's came against other community college players.

Barely averaging 6 ppg in JC ball can't translate to much in NCAA Division I, especially at a Big 12 school. Here's to hoping that he has a great defensive mind and/or is a great rebounder, because just going off the stat sheet, I'd bet that Edozie will disappear almost completely come Big 12 play. Here's to hoping I'm wrong though.

    Re: Edozie/Godfrey comparison

Keep in mind that Edozie played a team where he wasn't getting tons of minutes, same with Amardi (even though he isn't coming).

Let Edozie carve his own path at Iowa State, Godfrey was a great player but its unfair to already dismiss him as a quality player before he's even stepped foot on campus. I'm excited for any player thats willing to commit a lot of their time into Iowa State athletics, whether they contribute or not.

I think Edozie will bring a toughness down low that we have lacked (booker was okay, White was good too but not mean enough). If he can play quality defense and spell Niang/Ejim/Percy and grab some rebounds I'll be happy. We don't exactly need him to go for 12 ppg and 8 rpg every night.

    Re: Edozie/Godfrey comparison

I don't know if this is directed at me since I was the one saying it..... but I was just saying I hope he is that type of player. I never said I thought he would get those kind of minutes. I hope he is good enough to earn at least 10 minutes a game as a clean up player while Ejim sits. Someone who can play good interior defense and attack the glass for rebounds.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

I wasn't directing it at you, no, but it was your comments that made me wonder how comparable the two actually were. Glad I did the research on it, and it's safe to say that Godfrey definitely has/HAD more potential than Edozie, but Edozie, as you said, can hopefully provide a few minutes of solid backup help for the likes of Percy/Ejim/Niang. As long as he plays solid defense, none of the careless crap we saw out of Booker most of the time.

Hopefully Edozie doesn't have certain habits that Godfrey had.

I'll be shocked if Edozie plays more than 10 minutes in Big 12 play

    Re: Edozie/Godfrey comparison

Cyclones need a "dirty work" guy like Godfrey for sure. If Edozie can get some board, some tip ins and create a prescense on defense once in a while, he will be good addition.

    Re: Edozie/Godfrey comparison

I don't think we see much of him at all this year, he is a sophomore right? He has a year to figure out his role before we lose Ejim and I think he was brought in more for the '14-15 season. He might become more valuable if we miss on all our bigs again for the '14 class. Of course, losing Amardi might spring him into action earlier than expected, but Hogue is 6'6 and could play as a big if we were in need as well. I see no reason why he couldn't fill in minutes when needed. Back to Edozie, we really don't know a whole lot about him at this point.

Going to miss potential of Amardi. Edozie long way to go. But hope he likes it here and can improve. Not bashing....you'll see for yourself at the CCL

    Re: Edozie/Godfrey comparison

People keep saying Hogue can play as a big but don't realize that Ejim is an enigma and a 4 year starter. He is more versatile than many guys his size. I don't think Hogue can or should play defense on a big. If he is expected to play the 4 in the coming seasons, that could be big trouble.
