The stupidest computer mistake you've ever made?

So I had a face-palm moment on my home pc this week and it got me thinking it might be funny to share some of our dumber cyber moments.

Suddenly last week I had no audio on Chrome. For about two days I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hell was going on. I could play music on itunes, watch videos stored on my computer, no problems. But as soon as I opened up Chrome and went to YouTube, bye bye audio. At about the end of Day 2 I figured out the problem. I had turned down the volume slider on YouTube. Such a dumb-***.

A few years ago this lady at work couldn't figure out why Copy and Paste wasn't working and she asked for help. She was trying to Copy on one computer, walk across the aisle and Paste on another.

Re: The stupidest computer mistake you've ever made?

We have two mouses (or mice I suppose) sitting on our desk. One real one and one for our 2 year old to mess around with. It seems to never fail that I grab the play one and then wonder why the screen isn't coming out of sleep mode.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ~ George Carlin

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life:
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers

One time I saw this old guy try to control his computer by talking into the mouse. This was way before you had any voice recognition software - I think it happened in the 80's. Anyway, he kept saying "Hello computer" and nothing was happening. Pretty funny stuff! He was a sharp guy though - he showed us how to make transparent aluminum, which was pretty slick.

Re: The stupidest computer mistake you've ever made?

I sat in front of my parents Gateway 2000 for 2 and a half hours waiting for the first trailer Star Wars Episode 1 to load. It crashed once and when it was done loading it was a whopping 2 and a half minutes long - gotta love dialup

I wouldn't call this a mistake at the time, but looking back on it, it was pretty stupid.

one of my favorite computer moments was when my laptop picked up something from somewhere because I was lazy about updating security stuff in college. So one day I brought my laptop to our office to work on the yearbook. My co-editor was transferring stuff from my laptop to our main computer. I was on the phone with a very well-known, nice person in our industry, with whom I was working with for a class project, and using his farm as my case study. While I'm talking, all of a sudden my co-editor shouts "cowgirl836, your computer is full of porn!" I'm sure the person on the other end of the phone heard that but they never said a word, thankfully. We had a good laugh about it, she thought she was being funny (thought I was just checking voicemail) since all it was was one little popup, but she was hoping the other students sitting outside our office would hear.

I would say not being smart enough to erase my "history" after checking out some really sick porno on my dads laptop. I was about 17 yrs old and this was in about 1995. That made for an embarrassing little conversation.

This could be a fun game, lets all try to guess what type of filth MC CrappinHawks was looking at. Are we talking more than 1 species involved?

Oh that's what he was doing? Crazy old codger. The crabby sarcastic guy with him didn't seem like a "Save the Whales" kind of guy.
