He's still writing like the worst case is very possible, but it's going to be nothing.

I'd forgotten this even happened until this thread appeared. We won't remember this by Christmas.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

There is another article I read somewhere that said that since we weren't on the NCAA "docket" for a live hearing, it was likely that it would be handled over the phone because it didn't warrant a higher level of attention.

    (sorry, no link right now)

Yeah, thanks, that was it. Didn't expect this to make it in the DM Rag article.

"ISU’s case is not on the docket to be heard in person in front of the infractions committee, the source said. That means a teleconference is more likely to be used for the sides to discuss the case, which suggests it is considered less severe."

Someone better tell Ken Miller this. After the initial report came out he spent about 15 minutes talking about how ISU could be in serious trouble, and i believe was even talking bans from post-season play.....it was pretty pathetc

The Trib does a much, much better job than the Reigister at covering ISU sports.

Miller thought the violations were not worthy of attention. His cohost Jim Brinson was the one who over reacted.

Brinson? I sort of like him, but his Barnstormers coverage is sort of annoying. He tries to come up with a different catch phrase every time they score a touchdown. I'm sure it's meant to be edgy, but it comes off as kind of needy and desperate.

EVERYTHING about Brinson comes off as needy and desparate. Everything.

That being said, in this case, Brinson was the one who was saying that this could be bad for Iowa State and Miller kind of changed his position a few times.

All of the media outlets (Keith Murphy, Register, Tribune) did a very poor job explaining that while the violations might technically end up classified as 'major', major violations don't necessarily mean things like post season bands, scholarship reductions, vacated wins, etc. They just kept on harping on the major part and the average person thinks that is much worse than it is.

Of course, it was only Bryce Miller who in the matter of a week or so accused Iowa State of hiding terrible things from him and then also excused a former assistant from any wrong doing because he was the son of an Iowa AD and was old.

Amen. On this story in particular, the Trib ran circles around the Register. The Register latched on to the word "major" and splashed it in every headline they could. The Trib laid everything out in great detail, making it clear that while this stuff can't be ignored, it probably isn't going to be a big deal. The average reader would have walked away far more informed from the Trib's coverage.

As long as I live, I don't think I will ever forget what an embarrassment to sports opinion writing Bryce Miller published that day. I mean, I was embarrassed for him and that never happens to me. It might literally be the worst sports opinion piece I've ever read.

You are a better person than me, because I wasn't kind enough to be embarrassed for him. I was just really, really mad about it. And when I think about it now, I still get mad. :) Honestly, when I first read it I couldn't believe it wasn't satire.

Didn't they teach you in Iowa history that Bobby Elliott = blue blood Hok = saint, could not possibly be a cheat? And Rag still has to go on a multiple week diatribe about ISU not giving them more information even though NCAA rules prohibit it.
