    Iowa's last bowl hope..almost gone.

In the fourth quarter, Florida Atlantic leads Troy 21-12. A win by FA officially ends the begging for the Hawks.

    Shhhhhh!
Don't tell the hawk fans this. It's more fun letting them think they have a shot.

I thought they were already in the BCS?

Oh, right, that was before the season even started.

Re: Iowa's last bowl hope..almost gone.

Game not over as yet...if FA wins,it's over for Hawks.

For Hawkeyes fans wondering who to cheer for in today’s games, it’s as simple as this: No. 12 Hawaii (11-0) must lose to Washington (4-8). If the unbeaten Warriors beat the Huskies, they’ll clinch a spot in a BCS game, opening one of the Western Athletic Conference’s three bowl spots for the winner of the Nevada-Louisiana Tech game, thus filling the 64th and final bowl opening.

    That’s not all, though.

With a Hawaii loss, Florida Atlantic (6-5) has to lose to Troy (8-3), and Central Michigan (7-5) must beat Miami (Ohio) (6-6).

Also, it wouldn’t hurt to pull for No. 6 Virginia Tech (10-2) over No. 11 Boston College (10-2) in the ACC title game or No. 7 LSU (10-2) over No. 14 Tennessee (9-3) in the SEC championship. Either of those outcomes will help Illinois (9-3), No. 15 in this week’s BCS rankings, climb into the top 14 and become eligible for an at-large BCS berth.

So, if Hawaii loses and things shake out as the odds-makers think they will in the conference championship games, Illinois will land in a BCS game — the Rose Bowl if top-ranked Missouri (11-1) should lose to No. 9 Oklahoma (10-2) in the Big 12 title game, which likely would slide Big Ten champ Ohio State (11-1), currently No. 3, into the BCS championship.

Man I am confused. Don't they still have a hot if OU beats Mizzou and puts 2 big 12 teams in the BCS and Ohio state goes to the NC game. That would open up a few more spots right?

Also I thought that the Armed forces bowl was all the could hope for and UCLA is now eligible. That has to take them out right? I don't know.

    FAU 38-32, final.
This should (almost) shut the door on the bowl game hopes.

Question.....is Iowa able to keep on practicing since they are "officially" bowl eligible? Or do they have to formally accept a bowl invite before practicing again?

I think not-a team only gets a fixed number of practices for a bowl-maybe 15? So teams take a break between the end of the season and bowl practices.

Another fork will be placed in iowa's slim chances if Cal beats Stanford. That would give the Pac 10 enough bowl eligible teams to fill all their spots even if they get 2 teams in the BCS.

Actually I think the only at large spot that might be available if that happens is if the Big XII gets 2 BCS teams-then one Big XII commitment would be available, and would go to the last Big ten school, or New Mexico

New Mexico (8-4) would be in line for the last MWC tie-in. Look for TCU (7-5) and Troy (8-4) to be the top two at-large teams.

They may have such a lowball bowl they need to start pacticing now for the Vegas Bowl on 15 Dec or whatever. The hot air balloon may still be aloft over Iowa City:

I think they are out because there are enough 7-5 teams now, so no 6-6 teams can be selected.

too bad for the rule of only having 2 teams per conference in the BCS. If OU wins tonight, at large bids for MIzzou and KU would be likely.

I'm not sure Kansas is in the BCS. There are 3 at large bids-Georgia gets one, and if Hawaii wins they get one. Some of the talking heads have Arizona State in if they win
