Sounds like a great program. I kind of hate to see it in print, lest it start to create buzz in the college football community.

Kinda what I was thinking as well. Not that it's some kind of huge secret, but if it's working really well for us, I'd just prefer not to share it.

Yeah, that's kind of where I am. I figure this must not be a secret among trainers and there are sales people trying to sell these items, but I want every edge we can get. The program seems transformative.

Thanks for posting this. I have been wondering about it since CPR mentioned it in like every interview he did this spring. I can only imagine that his excitement about it means it probably strikes fear in the players.

I'm just happy we're using it to improve athletic performance.

Re: Yancy McKnight's S/C treadmill workout

After actually reading the article there is a lot of good information in there. I have to give props to Ames Tribune and Bobby as that might be the most informative article I've read by a newspaper in a long time. I think that the individualized work outs and immediate feedback is extremely valuable. I always thought that figuring out what weight you should be lifting or could be lifting was a bit of a crap shoot. With a monitor to show the speed you can see that you were maybe doing too much or too little weight. Also, after reading that article I'm petty sure that Yancy deserves a raise.

In addition, I really think this will help in recruitment in more ways in one. High level players really see college as a place to increase their abilities so they can be well payed in the NFL. Being one of the top training centers can only help. Plus, it may just help weed out some of the more talented players that don't want to work so hard but will attract those that do (aka Jake Knott).

Love reading stories like this...finding ways to get the most out of players with research based approaches. Ever wonder how some players back in the 80s/90s may have been with programs like this?

But until a dozen of our players' pee turns brown, not impressed. :-)

I can't wait to see how this program develops over the next few years. For once, ISU has the best shiny.

Re: Yancy McKnight's S/C treadmill workout

I work in the same franchise that invented these treadmills (Athletic Republic, same as Acceleration Iowa) and those treadmills provide the toughest workouts I have ever seen or done. These really do increase speed and power and I have always wondered why ISU didn't utilize them. Its really nice to see Yancy finally incorporated these into their workouts.

You will see a noticeable difference in team speed with these. Its not a matter of if, but when.

Re: Yancy McKnight's S/C treadmill workout

I don't think this type of workout is any secret at all. Our high school track coach has a workout similar, although the treadmills aren't as high powered or fancy as the ones at ISU. It's similar because we put it at the highest speed and highest elevation and go for 30-45 seconds

Re: Yancy McKnight's S/C treadmill workout

I've followed McKnight's methods since his days at Rice, and what I like is that he's always curious about new things out there, and ways to do things better. What a quantum leap from Chizik days and Ken Sheppard...
