    Pro-Coaches that are 100% Safe

George Karl getting fired made me make a mental list of coaches who are completely safe. I define that as they can quit on their own terms.

Here is what I have. I won't pretend that I follow NHL.

    NFL:

    Bill Belichick

    MLB:

    Mike Scioscia
    Jim Leyland
    Joe Maddon

    NBA:

    Greg Popovich

Ron Gardenhire has to be pushing it.

Re: Pro-Coaches that are 100% Safe

I agree with the Harbaughs and McCarthy.

I think baseball might be the trickiest. I'm not sure Sciosia's seat isn't a little warm.

I think OP is absolutely correct tho with Leyland.

Agree with most outside of Sciosia. After this year, with the talent they have...

Re: Pro-Coaches that are 100% Safe

Completely safe today, or completely safe for the next x years?

In any sport, 1 horrendous year will put you on the hot seat. I think that'd apply even to Belichick (if Brady retired).

In the NBA, Frank Vogel is pretty safe for a couple years after this year, I'd think.

I can't see the Yankees firing Girardi, but if they won only 60 games next year... who knows.

If Girardi doesn't get to the playoffs this year his seat will be warm. If they wouldn't get into the playoffs next year he'd be gone.

Pop is the only coach I view as completely safe, unless Nick Saban counts as a pro coach.

The only way to be 100% safe is abstinence.

This is the important question, nobody is completely safe if they start losing enough.

He defined it in his OP.

But without a timeframe on it.

I guarantee absolutely zero coaches could finish last in the league 3 years in a row and still be considered safe.

    I'll add NHL:
    Mike Babcock

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
