    Tooth Crown

This afternoon I am going to the dentist to have 2 crowns put on my front teeth. I hate going to the dentist and am dreading it. Has anyone ever had this done, and how did your experience go?

Crowns aren't bad. Unless you are getting a post too, that hurts pretty good. Just get some gas and float away while he's working on you.

    Re: Tooth Crown

I've had 2 crowns, one with a root canal.
It's not that bad. The initial one you have for a week or so feels kinda weird, the real one later on feels smooth.

    Re: Tooth Crown

Everything is a minor procedure unless it's done on you. I've had around seven crowns. Most molar, no front teeth. It's really no worse than a filling, except the time it takes to keep your mouth open. Hopefully your dentist has the machine that builds the permanent crown in the office. No temporary, and it's made from one solid chunk of material vs. the compounds.

Upper teeth? You won't feel a thing.

I've heard that it's a little more difficult to numb the lower jaw, and that's definitely been my experience with fillings (I've never had a crown). Just have them give you a couple more shots if you still feel pain. Are you also having a root canal?

yeah the lower jaw is tougher to numb. It's harder to hit the nerve.

I had my two front teeth done as well. If you want to feel like a hillbilly take a look in the mirror after they grind your teeth down. It's not a bad process. Normally they will grind the teeth down put on some temporary caps until the new ones come in. Then they will just pop off the temps and install the new ones. Not nearly as bad as it sounds.

    Re: Tooth Crown

One of my lower molars got real sensitive to cold or hot. The dentist had to remove the filling to determine that the old filling had cracked. It took forever for him to get that numb. Once the novocaine finally wore off the pain I had was from the 5 or 6 shots they gave me to get it numb enough to work on.
Now he wants to put a crown on it. I haven't decided whether or not to do it as the new filling is working just fine.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

    Re: Tooth Crown

Had quite a few crowns put on the front teeth a while back (skiing accident) and it's not bad. Mine were all upper. The day they grind your teeth down to the shape needed to get a good fit for the crown is the most painful...well, a lot of pressure and hearing the tools more so than pain. Put on temporary crowns, then when the permanent ones come in they pop off the temps, cement on the new ones, and you're good to go.

Crowns are easy. Implants are the worst thing ever.

    Re: Tooth Crown

Ive had two crowns with root canals. Honestly the worst part was the root canal and the worst part of that was proping my jaw open for an hour so they could do all of the work.

I wouldnt worry too much about the crowns although I have never had any work done on the front teeth, Im sure you will do fine
