Things are getting weird on the show. I just started Storm of Swords for the second time.

Agreed. I honestly thought, the figure coming out of the snowy blizzard like situation was going to be the coldhands reveal until they showed the white walker with the baby.

Definitely lots of surprises last night. Bran getting captured at Craster's was an interesting story line. Jon better show up quick or Meera and Hodor are in deep.

And putting a face to the leader of the Others was interesting. I guess I had always assumed them to be an unorganized horde, not an evil army with possibly a command structure.

Apparently HBO may have accidentally released the identity of the leader of the Others in an episode synopsis it posted last night (They have since changed it). Potentially a spoiler for The Winds of Winter - Google at your own risk.

I really don't like the idea of Bran being captured at all so even less enthused about ever catching up with the show. Seems disrespectful to that group's abilities in the books. At the rate they are going, maybe Rickon will come to the rescue.

That was my suspicion as well. To me, pretty well verifies that Coldhands is Benjen Stark.

So they said the leader of the others is the other guy people were theorizing could be Coldhands?

They were getting a bit ahead with the Bran story line if I am remembering the books correctly. Kind of wondering if this little capture is added to buy some time because otherwise it just drags on. Get saved by Jon Snow and then keep on going and meet Coldhands hopefully.

Honestly, wasn't it the fifth book before they even got north of the wall? Bran just roams around the North for, like, a book and a half. And it's the MOST BORING STORYLINE EVER. I can understand them trying to inject something into it, because there's really only so much walking they can put on TV.

Yeah, and now I'm wondering if the wildlings attack on The Wall may not even happen this season.

agree. I was like, whoa, they really advanced the plot. All the changes in timeline and story have me confused with the north. I was going to reread the books, but now, am on the fence, just because I think I may get more confused doing both at the same time.

How many episodes are left in the season? I forget, this is the first time we've had HBO and watched them live.

I wonder if they'll end up also doing more with Bran and the tree people. I haven't rewatched the early seasons, was there as much of an emphasis in the first season on Old Nan's stories about the children of the trees as there was in the books? Because I remember being in, like, the second chapter of the book and thinking, "Oh, Bran's going to meet up with them." Will non-book-readers understand the reference?

Didn't Old Nan's stories make it fairly obvious who the leader of the Others is?

    Six more episodes this season.

I agree they had to do something with Bran. His story in Book 5 is dullsville til he finds the cave. I imagine this will just be a little side adventure. He will ignore Jon's wishes and continue North (or be killed by Locke, lol).

But I agree with the one poster that thinks the Reeds getting captured so easily by a bunch of drunkards/rapists is kinda offputting. They were supposed to be so stealthy.

If so I completely missed it. But I can be pretty horrible at deducing future events from dreams, stories, premonitions, etc in the books.
