    Richard Amardi's eligibility status

So I have looked and looked every where and can not find anywhere that explains why he has only 1 year of eligibility. He is a JC transfer, so I don't get how he can only have 1 year remaining, as they don't let you play through your JR year at community colleges. Did he originally sign somewhere else out of HS? Also, I know this isn't the first case of this happening at ISU. Marquis Gilstrap was a one year wonder also, but I don't remember the story behind that either.

I think he took a year off to get surgery or something.

    Re: Richard Amardi's eligibility status

Both of these articles explain his situation a little better. I had to dig deep for these two so you're welcome. Ha jk.

    "Richard Amardi

A strong, athletic big man...will play his final season of junior college basketball at Indian Hills C.C...redshirted in 2009-10 at Weatherford C.C. in Texas...played 12 games for Weatherford in 2010-11, averaging 13.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks...shot 55 percent from the field...in 2011-12, had problems with his visa and went back to Canada and did not play basketball...will be classified as a sophomore at Indian Hills, but will have one season of eligibility at Iowa State under the NCAA five years to play four rule."

That's too bad, would be nice to have him around for 2 years, he will help this season around the basket, he's really active.

I thought they were going to send in a request for another year. He should have some sort of case but time will tell.

If ISU ever got a NCAA waiver for something (anything!) I think my head would explode.

I think one year is enough bc it gives them another scholarship to use. There is a potential to maybe have the best class in ISU history with guys like Vaughn, Abu, etc.

Like Tony Yelk staying in school for 12 years?

I am going to have to invoke the exception that proves the rule clause and the medical and kicker exemption clauses. Medical redshirts, no matter how dubious, do not count. Kickers do not count, although kickers with a 48 yards per rush average and a passing efficiency rating of 125.2 do come very close.

And Yelk was only here 6 years; Jess Settles was one who actually played for a decade.

Well I hope he gets that extra year. Hoping he gives us the stability and presence underneath that Booker and Gibson could not/have not yet bring/brought consistently.

Gibson hasn't had much of a chance, last year he was too busy looking at Fred and wondering what he did wrong after another failed attempt of trying to get a shot off 1v3. Here's hoping he matures in that regard in the offseason, I believe he could be a starter once he realizes how to succeed in the college game.

Gibson had every chance...he just peed down his leg.

Would help his cause a great deal if he stayed in Ames to work out and play some CCL instead of going home every summer.
