Neighbors mediacom runs through my backyard... how would you handle this?

So I just got a new next door neighbor after about 7 years of living in my house. Really nice people. Only problem is that they are on the corner lot and apparently the only Mediacom connection point is in my backyard in the opposite corner. Apparently my last neighbor didn't have cable. For the past two weeks there has been a Mediacom cable running on top of the ground, through my flower bed, about 40' along my back property line and 60' of flower bed up the side of my property before it can enter the neighbors lot. I thought it was maybe a temporary thing, but maybe not.

Mediacom did not ask for permission to be on my property or to run the cable across my property. Even if they trench in the cable it will be through about 100' of an existing planting bed and I'm not excited about having the line located every time I want to move a plant for fear of knocking out my neighbors cable.

My question. What would you do? I don't want to **** off my new neighbors, but at the same time I don't want their cable running through my yard. I feel like me bringing it up less than a month into knowing them would sour the relationship. Do I just call Mediacom directly?

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

Yeah that sounds like Mediacom's problem to solve more than you or your neighbors.

Call Mediacom and tell them they need to bury it around the edge of your property.

I would ask the neighbor when Mediacom was planning on burying that.

Check your legal documents (plat, property survey, etc). There are sometimes utility easements on the back 10' or so of properties. If this is the case, all you can do is try to get them to minimize the damage and restore your property where they damage it. If this is not the case, I'd be calling Mediacom and asking them why they are trespassing.

I wouldn't call Mediacom directly...that might even upset your new neighbors even more knowing that you went "over their heads" and went straight to the cable company without consulting them first.

I'd just talk to your neighbors. Unless they're looney, they won't think anything of it...and if they're the type of people that would, then who cares about being on good terms with them anyways.

Mediacom should take care of it. As for running it across your property without your permission, I don't think you have any recourse. They probably have an easement allowing them to do so and if you mess with it you could get in deep ****.

Why not? It's something that will require the OP to work with Mediacom anyway.

I don't see where the neighbors could be upset that he protected his own property.
I'd call Mediacom and expect them to get this thing fixed quickly.

    This.

Im also not sure why no one has yet to suggest burning down the neighbor's house. Burning (name issue here) down typically is the top CF recommended solution.

I almost typed it, but people were giving serious answers, so I thought that I'd wait.

Because it's an issue of mutual concern; there shouldn't be anything contentious about two neighbors talking to each other about it first. Maybe the neighbor knows something and just hasn't gotten around to sharing it. Maybe the neighbor does't know that the cable is running through an adjacent yard and will contact Mediacom himself if he does.

I'm just putting myself in the shoes of the neighbor...I might feel like I left next door to some overly passive-agressive type if they felt like they couldn't just come talk to me about something like this.
