I'd hate to be an LSU fan. That's really a top program, but they can't seem to keep a coach to save their lives.

I'm an LSU fan and life is good down here in Baton Rouge! I just hope the team can stay focused on Tennessee and come home SEC Champions!

As for "keeping" a coach, that is very much over rated....just look how long ISU kept it's last coach...what did that get us? Nothing but extended mediocrity. Saban was here 5 years and Miles 3. With rare exceptions, most coaches spend 5-10 years in one spot before there is a change. LSU is on the low end of this range but not dramatically so...plus the reasons for the changes have been due to the success of the program. Frankly, I think LSU makes a big coaching upgrade with this change!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Baton Rouge is an ugly city IMO (2 recent visits) and unless you are from the area, I think most coaches will bolt for higher paying jobs that have nicer family communities.

    Just my opinion.

completely agree. LSU seems to change coaches and be right back in the NT hunt. If Chizik builds us into a big12 power and bolts so what...we got chizik because mac had improved our image and if chizik improves it further it can only help with our next hire. I personally think there is a shelf life on all but the elite coaches at a single institution. After 6-8 years their schemes are tired, their recruiting sags, and excitement fades. It is probably good for most schools to change every 6-8 years.

Eventually it will have to come back to bite them in the ***. Changing coaching staffs, changing play styles, etc. I definitely agree that they keep sailing on like nothing happened, but it's tough to stay on top, and it only takes one hiring mistake to make for three or four subpar years.

I don't feel bad for LSU...they will get their pick of coaches...which coach doesn't want a chance to coach all that talent they seem to be bringing in? Unless a situation like Miles being a UM alum or Satan...I mean Saban who wanted the big stage of the NFL (which he quickly found out he didn't have it in him to win at that level), LSU will end up with a great coach!

Iowa is in for some very savage beat downs at the hands of Michigan in the coming years. Miles is a very gutsy coach, much more of a risk taker and aggressor than Lloyd ever was, and he'll have the players to be successful.

Miles is an idiot and makes some of the worst in game coaching moves ever. The guy is not a good coach and only wins (barely) because of the stellar talent he has.

    Bad choice by Michigan.

Re: Les Miles to be named Michigan head coach

    Not so fast.

The headline on ESPN.com's front page now reads "Source: Miles to announce he's staying at LSU."

However, when I clicked on the story, it still read that he's going to Michigan.

EDIT: They just updated the story. He's staying. He agreed to a contract extension this morning.

ESPN - Source: Miles will remain coach at LSU - College Football

Miles is an azz!!! I just spent all week down in Oklahoma at a clients and everyone down there hates him for the crap he pulled on the kids at OSU. He kept telling them he was staying, then minutes before kickoff in his pre-game speech he dropped it on them that he was leaving to take the LSU job.

Re: Les Miles to be named Michigan head coach

Did he pull a Glen Mason or is ESPN just full of crap? Probably both.

So, who does Michigan go after now? I'm sure they're in full meltdown mode after this.

    Here's what Miles said:
There was misinformation on ESPN and I think it's imperative that I straighten it out. I'm the head coach at LSU, I will be the head coach at LSU, I have no interest in talking to anyone else. I have a championship game to play and I'm excited about the opportunity of my damn strong football team to play in it. And that's really all I'd like to say. It's unfortunate I had to address my team with this information this morning. With that being done, I think we'll be ready to play. There will be no questions for me; I represent me in this issue, please ask me after. I'm busy. Thank you very much, and have a great day.
