Maybe we have different definitions of "control their own destiny" but the Royals are still are very, very long shot to make the playoffs. They're still 6.5 games behind Detroit so winning the division isn't really realistic even if they sweep the Tigers in their final 3 game series.

And while they're only 2.5 games back in the race for the final WC spot, they need to leapfrog 4 teams to get that spot. Both scenarios aren't really controlling your own destiny. It's more like pray you finish the season red hot while hoping a whole bunch of teams go in the crapper.

Moose needs to be sent back to Omaha. I don't care what kind of prospect pedigree you have, you can't carry a third baseman who can't even manage an OBP of over .300 unless he's also hitting 40 bombs a year. Moose was bad last year and his offensive numbers are even worse this year. And his body is unfortunately starting to slide toward the Billy Butler side of the body type spectrum.

It is two WC spots that we are talking about though. Texas is about to "go in the crapper" as you write...

Moose is hitting fairly well since the first 2 or so months of the year when he was a total disaster. What you are saying doesn't make any sense given his trajectory this season as well as the fact that we have nobody decent to replace him.... and its September. And he had the game winning hit yesterday. And a walkoff HR last week.

In the position we are in now, we have to play very well in ever single series to remain in postseason contention. Any bad series and its probably over. Really, we have to pretty much win at least 2 of 3 in every series the rest of the season to have a chance.

Texas is still a couple of games better than the Rays. However you want to look at it, the Royals have to leapfrog a bunch of teams to claim a WC spot. If they were chasing one team, I'd feel a lot better about their chances. But the odds of everybody that's ahead of KC right now finishing the season like dog feces just aren't high.

For that matter, let's just say every game from here on out will determine our fate.

Four teams outside looking in, each within 2.5 games of the last WC spot and 16 games to go.

    Re: Royals

Just keep winning and take their chances.

New York, Baltimore and Tampa all play each other so someone has to lose. Royals play Cleveland. I think the Royals still control their own fate. If they win out, they will be in. (Note: That is the definition, not saying that will happen.)

Not if the Rays win out

Moose struggled last year, but played above average defense. This year both have regressed, but until Dozier or Cuthbert are ready I don't think KC has the luxury of shipping Mike out. And, even with his numbers down he's one of the few guys on the team that CAN hit the ball out of the park.

Rays lost last night. Royals should only be 2 games back now. And the rays wont win out, they are really struggling right now. Boston has been owning them, orioles have a very tough schedule. I think the Royals, Cleveland, and the Yanks might take that last spot

Trust me I am fully aware the Rays lost last night and I know KC is 2 games back and I know the Rays wont win out.

I was simply responding to the original post that said the Royals control their own destiny... they do not.

If I had to bet I think Cleveland gets that last spot simply because 14 of their last 17 are against the White Sox, Houston and Minnesota.
