    First time flyer

So, I'm about to take flight for my first time on an airplane. Ever.

    And I'm going to Europe.

I'm also terrified of heights and get motion sick easy. I'm not super stoked, obviously, but it wasn't my choice. Anywho, I have quite the carefully planned out cocktail of meds/alcohol planned out so that I'm pretty much in a zombie state the entire time in air. I guess I'm looking for other suggestions/tips for anybody else who hates flying.

-Xanax (my own prescription, small dose)
    -Dramamine
    -Bonine
    -Advil
    -Tums
-Ginger pills (I guess this is supposed to calm the stomach)
    -Free drinks on flight

Obviously, since I've never done this before, anything I should do that I'm not planning on doing, or anything I'm planning on doing that I shouldn't do?

    Thanks.

    Re: First time flyer

I am the same way. At this juncture if I never fly again a day in my life I will be happy. With that said, if I am forced to fly, I take a mixture of prescription Lorazepam and then OTC Dramamine. It'll make you drowsy and loopy as hell but it works for me. The last time I flew to San Fran and I all I remember of the flight was the fact that I could barely keep my heavy eyelids open.

I don't think you are planning on having fun which you should. Flying can be fun especially for a first timer. The views of different areas that you fly over are pretty cool and on a long flight I am sure there will be movies for you to watch. I wouldn't plan on trying to sleep because while it can be done (depending on the time when you fly (night or daytime) it can be difficult. Make sure you take some gum with you as chewing gum should help with any potential issues you have with your ears popping.

Make sure you're in the back of the plane. When that sucker loses power and goes down, it's the safest place to be. Unless it happens to be over a particularly shark-infested area of the ocean, then you have some decisions to make..

Just remember, you are safer in the airplane that you are in your car. And that there are 50,000 commercial flights per day throughout the world that take off and land with no issues.

If you've got the cash, do it. Flying first class is the way to go. More space (less claustrophobia), less likely to have noisy kids/babies (important on all flights, extra important on a trans-Atlantic flight), better service (more frequent beverages - you'll have a drink in your hand as soon as you sit down), warm towel service.

    Re: First time flyer

I think flying is fun as hell, if it was cheaper I'd do it much more often.

    - I'm not sure how fast planes get to while taking off, but that part is exciting.
    - The views are pretty awesome.
    - Every flight I've ever been on it has seemed pretty socially accepted to drink, whether that be 8 am or whenever.
