I wouldn't be upset if ESPN went away forever.

Still ****** at them for not ponying up the 500k extra OLN threw at it to get the NHL back after the '04 lockout. That and the fact Skip Bayless (or whatever) is still employed there.

Out of all of the reasons I miss cable/Sat, ESPN isn't even close to being one of them.

NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section.

    Re: ESPN's layoffs and future.

I don't know when sports talk turned into panels of blowhards faking controversial conversations. I do know I haven't listened to sports talk in years.

If they fired Chris Berman I'd be more likely to watch NFL highlights.

If you want interesting sports talk, check out Jay Mohr's radio show. Funny and entertaining

I quit listening when at least 30-40 percent of the time they didn't talk about sports, (they talked of movies, actors and TV shows), man I hate that entertainment talk. It seemed to me the sportscasters were just trying to make themselves relevant in the entertainment industry.

This quote sticks out to me:

"Sports haven't gotten dramatically more popular in the last few years, but everything else on TV has gotten less popular"

Reality television is to blame! No one wants to watch it.

Entertainment talk is cheap to produce.

    Re: ESPN's layoffs and future.

ESPN is still printing money. Just not as much money as Disney needs to keep their stock price to rise. From the article:

The company is still in great shape. It's still the most valuable media property in the world. It's still crushing its competitors. And it's still printing money.

But the rumored reason behind the layoffs — the soaring cost of broadcast rights eating into the company's profit margin — is a real concern for the future of the company.

ESPN was cool when I was a kid. Now its too gimmick-y. I'll watch games that interest me, but don't care to watch really any type of analysis show.

    Re: ESPN's layoffs and future.

MLB Network and NFL Network have completely taken my viewership from ESPN. Unless you're a Yankees or Red Sox fan there is absolutely no reason to watch Baseball Tonight. The guys at MLB Network are spectacular and they put out a fantastic product.
