    Knebraska to hire Pelini

    LINK

I think this will be a bad move. (But good for ISU & the rest of the Big XII)

Done deal. May keep Shane Watson as OC.

Wow they get one of their top 2 picks instead of their 5th!

Most of the Big Red breakfast people did not want Turner Gill. Hmmm.

Brian Kelly did not want to talk to them.

Jim Strobe apparently did not make the cut.

13th best job as HC in America and no wide nationl search.

Nebraska was fine offensively this past year. Their problems were mostly on defense. With a really good defense, Nebraska would have been a really good team this past year. In the short term (over the next 2-3 years) we may regret saying this was a "bad move".

I guess I was referring more to his demeanor/head coaching abilities than to his defensive skill set. (Although, there are people at LSU that will be happy to see him go)

Yeah, from all I have heard I don't see this as a bad move. I hope it is though. I would love to see them down for a while.

I fail to see your logic, I think Pelini is an awesome hire for them. He is one of the best coaches in America and will do a good job at NU.

No offense, but what Kool-ade have you been drinking?

The guy has NEVER been a head coach (with exception to the interim stint at NU). I know, I know... neither was Chizik (who was a D-coordinator since 1996 before coming to ISU). Pelini's only been a D-coordinator since 2003.

From what I've heard, he lacks the polish and professionalism to be a great HC. Granted, he's got a lot of fire in his belly, but how will that translate in the day-to-day duties of being a HC? How will he do game-planning? He'll definitely need to surround himself with assistants who can compensate for his weaknesses.

I won't be afraid to say "I was wrong" if Pelini ends up leading Knebraska to the promised land, but I'll be the first to say "I told you so!" if he doesn't...

Pelini reminds me a bit of Mike Stoops. I had heard first hand stories, albeit years ago now, about Mike and his sometimes ferocious demeanor. I really thought when he went to Arizona he would be a great motivator and huge success. I know absolutely nothing about Pelina firsthand, but from the outside these two guys seem similar, at least to me.

Speaking of polish and professionalism, doesn't Gene Chizik just telegraph those qualities every time you hear him speak?? I can't say enough about how lucky I think we are to have this man!!
