Worst tick season I've ever experienced

We've been finding a dozen or so ticks a day around our house for a couple weeks now. Tonight I took my dogs for a walk at Lowe Park (Marionites might know where it is). We'd only been on the trail about five minutes and I looked down and both dogs were COVERED with ticks and I had them crawling up my legs. Got them home and I'll bet we've pulled 50+ ticks from them. No joke, only on the trail five minutes. I've never seen anything like this.

We moved to a rural acreage this Feb. I hadn't really given much thought but man ever since early April it has been constant. We have one dog and just call her the tick magnet. We have treated her but still find dead attached, fallen off, or crawling around. I bet we have flushed several hundred and swept up or vaccumed many more. I reaaly just hope this isnt a yearly thing.

I've even noticed them in West Des Moines in my backyard. Never seen one here before but a few weeks ago we had 4 or 5 of them on us from being in our suburban back yard.

Maybe you just have sweet tasting blood. None over here in Hiawatha on me or the dog.

When our kids were little (late 80's - mid 90's), last item before the kids went to bed was a "tick check". Fairly frequently, we found what we were looking for.

Re: Worst tick season I've ever experienced

I haven't seen any yet this year in beaverdale. A few years ago..probably 7...I was surveying in a field that just west of the new SE Polk HS. Same thing you're talking about about...i was covered...so disgusting. Almost as disgusting as the time I was covered up past the knees in solid fleas....50/50 to the waist... and all over my shirt.

(I was working for a carpeting place in college and had to go in to measure this craphole up in gilbert. No one had lived there for a bit...just the fleas and cat litter. We walked in...stunk horrible so we measured quick...as in about 1.5 minutes. Got out to his truck...looked down...at each other and flipped the **** out. We were litterally beating the **** out of ourselves in the parking lot running around in circles trying to get rid of the fleas. Think the scene from Tommy Boy with the bees. Meanwhile across the lot were some older drunks already drinking 40's at like 10 am watching us. It was almost funny as we were chucking fleas out the window as we were driving back.)

Re: Worst tick season I've ever experienced

I agree. I've seen way too many ticks this year. We weren't really even in a wooded or tall grass area playing with the dog, got into the car and found 3 on my legs and about 10 on the dog. They're nasty.

I'll add mosquitoes to the list, too.

It's pretty bad when I've woken up at least three ir four nights feeling a tick crawling on me. Of course you start feeling them when they are not there too. I haven't had one bite yet, must not taste very good.

I have mushroom hunted with my dog for several hours this year and only found 2 ticks. I was just thinking how they haven't been bad at all this year.

Had to vacuum off the couch last week because we took the dog on a walk, come back and Frontline went to work while the dog was napping on the couch.

Positive: At least I know the Frontline is doing its job.
    Negative: Ticks still suck.

Many ticks this year hunting turkeys and mushrooms. Have to use DEET and Permithrin(sp?) on clothes.
