People that whine about this amuse me. It's tough for the different vendors/systems to select precise location. And hearing a warning for areas within a certain radius can help others that may be in the path prepare.

It's not like anyone's life/job are negatively impacted by this. Catch your show on Hulu or the direct online service. Almost anything can be streamed within 24-48 hrs after airing. It's not a big or even moderate issue.

Decade or so ago - most complained about inadequate warning systems. Sirens not loud or soon enough. Now, people complain with too much - now that warnings are pushed via TV/phone.

The consistent thing? People complain or question damn near everything.

Re: 5.20 Weather - metro tornado warning

My daughter had a double header softball game in Nevada tonight. The second game was called due to lightning. They stayed to grab dinner before heading back to Ames and waited things out at McDonalds. My hubby caught video of the funnel dropping down and trying to form. Someone pulled in after things had passed--her passenger window on her vehicle had been blown out.

Re: 5.20 Weather - metro tornado warning

I have a video similar to yours chuck. The shelves changed directions in a hurry. The lower shelf was heading north and suddenly shifted and headed due east. The upper shelf continued north. The clouds felt so low right on top of us. My wife commented it felt like we needed to paint our door with lambs blood.

As I said, if we have the ability to pick and choose, it makes sense to do so. If not, I am fine with erring on the side of caution. The word safety is overused now as a way to avoid having to justify things that don't make sense.

What medium are you talking about here? Radio? TV?

The way that EMS used to work when I was in that industry, was each radio/tv station had an EMS box, and when it was activated by one location, it broadcast on all the other boxes in the area. That area was pre-programed into the device, and was not dependent the particular weather event.

First time I ever received a warning from my phone was last night. Second time tonight. Marshalltown never gets the cool parts of storms though, always misses us and/or is dark by the time it's here.

Yeah, I'm in Nevada, and both last night's and tonight's storms thankfully passed us without any major damage. we were lucky to miss the worst of it both times.

Cable. Last night it broke in for a storm in far southern Iowa and tonight for one in Story County. Nothing for the storms in Adel or Polk City which are both closer (Indianola).
