A conversation with John Walters (Pete Taylor, CRN, program insight & more)

The latest from my "Conversation Series."

How did John Walters become John Walters? I think that fans will really enjoy a in-depth look at the man behind the headset.

Thanks Chris! These interviews are tremendous! They're helping to ease the pain until football season starts.

JW is awesome and so glad we have an excellent broadcaster for our teams. I loved Pete and with his passing we had the bar set high for media relations and JW as certainly cleared that bar. Keep up the excellent work John and thanks for being on our side!

I was watching the replay of the 2000 ISU-Okie State football game on Cyclones.com from a couple weeks ago, and when ISU misses the PAT on their first touchdown, you can hear Pete mutter a slight obscenity into the microphone, just before cut to the commercial. Little things like that really made Pete "one of us."

CW's dream--to BECOME John Walters. Hey, someone has to take the job with the athletic department after John retires, right?

First time I saw JW in action was at a BarnStormers game, I think the first year they were in town. He was trying to do his report and apparently anything that could go wrong was going wrong. He was throwing out a few choice words, but it just reminded me that the reporters in the field have a lot of stress to make sure it all goes smoothly.

He sure has come a long way and I think he's a great addition to ISU, especially being the guy who had to take over for one of the greatest Cyclones of all time, RIP Pete! Keep up the great work Chris and John!

Good stuff. John seems like he'd be a fun guy to talk to. Both professionally or just over a beer at a bar
