I'd love it, but I don't know if it would ever happen.

Re: Cyclone Roundup: How about swapping Toledo for Illinois?

If JP could reasonably buy out the road trips to San Jose and Toledo and instead play a lower/mid tier Big 10 team - Illinois/Indy/Purdue/Minny/NW or maybe even Wisconsin on a neutral field (Soldier/Indy/Lambeau....) it would be a win-win for fans/TV/interest/region. If you lose at Toledo or San Jose it's a complete loss for the program. The downside of losing to a Big 10 team on a neutral field isn't near as bad.

    and remember.....

ISU as an institution and "commodity" needs to keep their feet alive since the re-alignment landscape is always altering. Scheduling Big 10 teams outside of Iowa would be another step in the right direction. (ie. If the Big 12 somehow cracks and Big 10 is looking West, ISU would have better legs to stand on and more competitive interest)

I like it, I would even swap them out for Iowa every other year...

Those away games at places like Toledo stink. Little fan support. A place like @illinois at least we'd probably have a decent contingent of fans. And what delt4cy said.

This is exactly what I was thinking. We should be playing as many Big 10 teams as possible to build those relationships.

Seems like we gave away a ton with all those home/away contracts.

P.S. I am looking forward to games against the Mighty Zips, even the away game because in-laws are there.

On twitter I follow a lot of beat reporters in the state of Iowa, one of them is Marc Morehouse from the Gazette who covers mainly Iowa sports. Over the last few days he's been tweeting that although Iowa AD Barta is backing keeping the CyHawk series alive behind the scenes he believes posturing may be taking place to reduce the series or completely get rid of it.

There is no way ISU should ever travel to Akron, Toledo, Tulsa, or San Jose St.

Yes, please! A game at Memorial Stadium would be awesome. Swap out Toledo for UIUC, and swap out San Jose State for Minnesota. (And maybe Akron for Wisky?)

Not a big fan of that myself.

I realize scheduling in football is far in advance, and ISU probably didn't have enough "pull" even to get middling teams to agree to Ames-only one-timer games. Or that's what I guess happened.

If we ever reach a point (big "if") that there's motivation for schools to add bulk to non-conference as a post-season strength advantage, regional games v. Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin (even, ugh, Nebraska) would make sense even while still keeping Iowa on the docket.

EDIT: Nebraska would be unlikely to do it under this scenario (at least currently)

Re: Cyclone Roundup: How about swapping Toledo for Illinois?

I'd love to see an annual game with Nebraska. They were dumb to play the Sergio Garcia blame-game with Texas, but at least an argument can be made that they are better off in the Big Ten.

At the same time I'd love to see a tornado completely destroy Faurot Field and every facility related to Missouri football. **** Missouri.
