Looks like a good movie. It might be that I've had a lot to drink, but I'm having trouble correlating the low unemployment to letting people kill each other once a year though.

Purge is getting good early vibes but this is being lauded as a movie that will scare the **** outta people. Can't wait for this (and The Purge, and The Conjuring)

I saw trailers for all three of these a couple of weeks ago. The Purge and You're Next seem interesting.
The Conjuring is about Ed & Lorraine Warren. I remember seeing one of their lectures back in the 70's. They talked about some freaky stuff much of which has been debunked.

Same here. Is it because instead of firing people you just kill them?

I'm just spit balling here, but what if the "purge" is doing such a "good job" at regulating the population that there are more jobs than workers?

Writers clearly didn't take Economics, an unemployment rate that low is a disaster for the economy. I guess this movie proves it.

Cool concept though, will be seeing it for sure

I agree but this concept seems a lot better suited to a book, imo. I guess I find it hard to believe that just because it was legal to kill somebody one day out of the year that lots of people actually would. I could see more people trying to figure out a way to rob a bank...

Also, even if I had the means to trick out my house with steel doors everywhere I'd still have a concrete vault where my family and I would wait out the 12 hours.

Looks like the family in the trailer had a pretty decent "plan."

Not to completely derail this and get it sent to the cave, but I'd think you'd likely trim the wrong side of the population.

Not to mention if you were a really efficient thief you could just make a living on stealing stuff for that one night.

Maybe the number of jobs added to install security system to protect you for that night was enough to drive the unemployment numbers.

Yeah the entire idea is completley unbelievable but that doesn't bother me in movies unless they try to too hard to make it sound reasonable (because then you spend the whole time debunking everything). If its done right, it sounds like a sweet concept for a movie.
