Where do you find wild asparagus in Polk County? Any suggestions?

Ive grown up always thinking asparagus is gross. But everything I read says its delicious. Am I just doing it wrong or what?

I have never had it, but assumed it was gross because it makes your pee smell worse than usual...

    Re: Asparagus Hunting

Big fan of asparagus on the grill.
Wild asparagus seems crazy....I always thought asparagus was only raised in huge factory farms with horrible living conditions...the kind of farms that groups like PETP (people for the ethical treatment of plants) targeted. Who knew.

    Re: Asparagus Hunting

I am not sure where to o in Polk Co, but have my own known sources. I would drive along the gravel roads and look in th fence rows....

How do you eat yours? I like mine boiled and then add melted butter.

Looking around old farmsteads (road ditches/fences) is a good option.

Cook it on the grill with some olive oil and coarse ground pepper.

    Re: Asparagus Hunting

Love me some asparagus. Just grilled some today that was fresh picked yesterday alongside with my steak. We usually do olive oil with garlic, salt, and pepper. If there is no room in the grill or it's not grilling season, in the oven does a nice job as well.

    Re: Asparagus Hunting

I would think hiding from asparagus would be more appropriate. If the asparagus finds you, so be it.

This is the best way to prepare asparagus. Almost makes me want to run to the store and fire up the grill...

    Re: Asparagus Hunting

It should only be grilled. Any other cooking method renders it inedible.

Also, is this a joke topic, making fun of the "morel hunting" thread?

    Re: Asparagus Hunting

My mother in law boils it and then puts it in a white sauce. Not good. Grilled with olive oil and salt is the only way to go. Letting the tips get just a little crispy and its like eating a chip

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.
