    New assistant coach?

Jeff Goodman ‏@GoodmanCBS Don't be surprised if former Nebraska coach Doc Sadler lands at Iowa State on Fred Hoiberg's staff.

    Re: New assistant coach?

No offense but we (me, other CF posters in other threads, local sports talk radio, etc.) have been all over this for almost 48 hours now. I tweeted that he was the odds on front-runner like two hours after the Otzelberger news broke.

Just letting you know. Nothing wrong with you posting this thread.

It is a local media thing! A me problem, not you!

    Carry on.

Yes, as Director of BB Operations. Self has already said in the media that Doc is not a candidate for their open coaching vacancy. Doc is bound to be shopping. There is more about this in the prospective Otz replacement thread.

Gotcha, I haven't been able to read a lot of threads the past few days, and I just saw Chris's post.

That'd be a solid hire if true.

He'd be a good hire but I'd rather have a guy that won't be looking to take a head job ASAP.

Meh, I'll hold out for the zen master Philly Jackson. He obv turned down the Nets for us.

True, but at the same time, I'd like to have a coach who will teach some defensive fundamentals.

I disagree. Anybody that does a good job in the role as Hoiberg's associate head coach will get looked at by other jobs. It is the nature of the business.

I'd much rather have other schools gunning for Iowa State assistants than Iowa State assistants never getting looks. If Iowa State is winning, assistants will move on. If Iowa State is losing, they will stay put.

    Re: New assistant coach?

Doesn't Kansas have an opening? Is he really that good if they would rather let him walk than promote him? Just a question, but I'd like to have either this guy or the guy from Minnesota.

You would think thig guy was a pretty good assistant to have ever been promoted to HC in the first place though... Even if he didn't make a good HC.

Its him. Not sure how I feel but Fred doesnt care about my opinion. If he did, I would have MUCH better seats than I do. He knows more than me.

    Re: New assistant coach?

Also if ISU is putting assistants into head coaching jobs elsewhere there will be a lot coaches out there who will know where to send their players when they decide to transfer out of those programs.

Bill Self would have a staff full of ****** off disgruntled assistants if he went and promoted the director of basketball operations to associate head coach.

    Re: New assistant coach?

Does anyone know where Doc's recruiting ties lie? I realize he didn't bring in vast amounts of talent at Debbie but that's somewhat understandable. What I'm wondering is what kind of geography he has ties in.
