    No offense but we (me, other CF posters in other threads, local sports talk radio, etc.) have been all over this for almost 48 hours now. I tweeted that he was the odds on front-runner like two hours after the Otzelberger news broke.

    Yes, as Director of BB Operations. Self has already said in the media that Doc is not a candidate for their open coaching vacancy. Doc is bound to be shopping. There is more about this in the prospective Otz replacement thread.

    True, but at the same time, I'd like to have a coach who will teach some defensive fundamentals.

    I disagree. Anybody that does a good job in the role as Hoiberg's associate head coach will get looked at by other jobs. It is the nature of the business.

    I'd much rather have other schools gunning for Iowa State assistants than Iowa State assistants never getting looks. If Iowa State is winning, assistants will move on. If Iowa State is losing, they will stay put.

    Doesn't Kansas have an opening? Is he really that good if they would rather let him walk than promote him? Just a question, but I'd like to have either this guy or the guy from Minnesota.

    You would think thig guy was a pretty good assistant to have ever been promoted to HC in the first place though... Even if he didn't make a good HC.

    Also if ISU is putting assistants into head coaching jobs elsewhere there will be a lot coaches out there who will know where to send their players when they decide to transfer out of those programs.

    Bill Self would have a staff full of ****** off disgruntled assistants if he went and promoted the director of basketball operations to associate head coach.

    Does anyone know where Doc's recruiting ties lie? I realize he didn't bring in vast amounts of talent at Debbie but that's somewhat understandable. What I'm wondering is what kind of geography he has ties in.
