    Diamond Head Classic

Is there an eighth team for Diamond Head Classic?

    Diamond Head Classic 2013

Curious about the bracket, too, but I suppose that won't be set until full field is set(?)

This has been discussed in past schedule threads, but wasn't able to find it.

    Re: Diamond Head Classic

Seems like a decent field. Wish we could play in the Maui invitational or even the tourney that Iowa is playing in next year. I think Oregon State could be an okay team next year, but SC was pretty awful this past season, and Im not very familiar with George Mason, Hawaii, etc.

Saint Marys is always good though, hopefully we get a chance to play them.

Still excited regardless, think this will be a great trip for the team too.

Battle 4 Atlantis is an incredible tournament, it will surpass Maui as the premiere early season tournament.

UNI had a great experience down there (even though we took the 0fer) and can't wait to go back in 2017!

Iowa State got pushed back by a year thanks to Mizzou. They accepted the invite as a Big XII team and ended up being an SEC team. I have to figure its ISU, Texas, and OSU after Kansas goes this year. Should get an invite in '14, '15, or '16.

The only reason Iowa got in was because Michigan State backed out last minute.

    Re: Diamond Head Classic

it's a pretty weak field. St. Mary's will be down. Oregon St. and South Carolina aren't good.

Though it should help out SOS as ISU isn't playing against low mid-major schools.

ISU is the second best team to Boise St. imo. As long as those two are in the opposite bracket, that should be the title game. Boise St. returns everyone, so they aren't a slouch.

I think this is a good year to be an a little easier tourney. This team will take a bit to get it's sea legs.

    Re: Diamond Head Classic

South Carolina has a pretty decent recruiting class coming in, ranked 23rd on ESPN. They will be young but hopefully much better than they were last year, I don't see how they could be worse.

Since this tournament is during Christmas, hopefully that will give Matt and Monte time to gel with each other and be ready for this thing.

Five of the seven teams in the 2013 field have qualified for the postseason this year, including Boise State (NCAA), Hawai‘i (CIT), George Mason (CBI), Iowa State (NCAA) and St. Mary’s (NCAA). The eighth and final team in the tournament field will be announced at a later date

I guess that should've answered my question, since I read that myself.

Maybe I was hoping for rumors & speculation.

Not a ton of strength there, but as you said, SOS should be OK, compared to recent "tournaments" that started with some weak home opponents.

    Re: Diamond Head Classic

with a non-conf schedule of mich, iowa, uni (neutral), @byu, @SEC game?, and three more neutrals in Hawaii I'd be shocked if we don't have a strong strength of schedule. if the b12 is as weak as predicted, we'll need 4-5 wins from those eight to make our tourney chances realistic.

Id never bet against a Frank Martin team.

Not even against a Fred Hoiberg team?
