    Camcorder?

Just getting started in the process of buying a new camcorder. I have looked at a few reviews but wanted the opinion of those who have some experience. I will use it mainly to record my daughter's sporting events. Any suggestions? Ones you have bought that were horrible? Ones you recommend? What to look for when buying one?

    Re: Camcorder?

Just stay simple. For our update, we're just thinking a simple Sony Handycam. Our old one was good to us. We don't need a ton of fancy stuff. We just need to be able to take simple movies.

Staying simple tends to be the best for most of us users.

I used to use Sony, but they are incompatible with Macs (which I use for editing). Just make sure you pick something that films in a format you can use.

I went with a Sony with a hard drive. I haven't been disappointed at all.

Also, if you are filming games, a tripod would be really nice. For my son's football games, I quit recording them because I would start centered on the play, and after the ball was snapped, inevitably I was trying to watch and film at the same time, so I got the first second of the play, three seconds of the sky, two seconds of the bleachers, the back of someone's head, and then back on the play.

Isn't that what a home video is?

Thanks to you all for the tidbits of info. Even the Farrah Abraham advice helps, I may see if I can contact her to help test it out.

Have you considered a neck brace to stabilize your head? It sounds like a watching problem, or maybe just some neck muscles that need development.

Neck brace, then duct tape the camera to my head? You're a genius!

Well if you're considering going that route, you may want to look into investing in a study-cam. At least then you won't look quite as goofy.

I'd 2nd Cyclonepride. We bought ours last summer and I used it extensively taping my 12 year old son's youth football games. As a coach on the team, it worked great for letting the boys see what they were doing right and wrong. Also tapped a lot of his AAU basketball games this past winter. Tri-pod is a must - doesn't have to be a fancy one either. Also, make sure you know how to turn the mic off. My wife recorded the basketball games and there are interesting conversations that go on in the stands
