Re: BLOG: Updated Big 12 basketball predictions for 13-14

i actually like the fact Baylor has a somewhat promising PG - he'll want to jack up bad shots and turn it over. Baylor might actually be somewhat scary if that had a limited/average PG who did nothing but pass it to their big guys inside.

KU, OSU, Bay probably spare the b12 some of the likely media bashing about it being the worst BCS conf. it may well be, but 3 preseason top 25s out of 10 teams isn't horrible.

I know you said not to tweet you about Scott Drew. But this isn't twitter. So as I've said before, Scott Drew is about the only coach that could under-acheive with the Miami Heat.

They have the talent, and I won't perdict this, but I could see us finishing tied or ahead of them.

Ill put any dollar that if I get this ball again, Long said, Its going in.
    - Naz Long to Markel Brown before hitting the game tying shot.

Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm still picking KU to barely edge out OSU for the title.

I am too, KU's recruiting class is insane and Self always gets the job done. Marcus Smart is the best player in the conference but KU will have 5 players with similar talent to Brown and Nash on the court

Re: BLOG: Updated Big 12 basketball predictions for 13-14

I don't see what's so good about Kansas State. Angel Rodriguez was about the only legitimate playmaker that would have returned next year. Shane Southwell is OK, but he's no Rodney McGruder. Other than that they have a short but stout post in Thomas Gipson and over-achieving 2 guard in Will Spradling. Top it off with several unremarkable recruits and I don't think they will finish in the Top 5 in the Big 12 next year. West Virginia will be better and brings in a Top 25 class. They'll be more of a threat to the 4/5 spot than KSU in my opinion.

Disappointed that CW doesn't see us finishing ahead of Baylor. I could Baylor dropping several places. Their bigs aren't really that good. And we are getting better each week.

Kind of agree. I can see Baylor taking a step forward from this past year, despite losing Pierre Jackson, but only because they keep their big guy and Austin (not a big guy) and have a good class coming in. They will be bidding on the 3 spot with ISU in my opinion, but I just don't think Jefferson and Austin are take-charge type players. Neither one is intimidating, and the team as a whole is undisciplined. No reason ISU can't finish above them next year.

OSU will have experienced talent. KU will have inexperienced talent. And until he proves me otherwise, I'll take Bill Self vs. Travis Ford every day of the week.

I do think that if we can get to the NCAA Tournament this year, Fred will put together a nice, long streak of NCAA tournament appearances. Next step is to start going deeper.

Re: BLOG: Updated Big 12 basketball predictions for 13-14

The problem as I see it here is this. TCU, OU, Tech, and West Virginia will be god awful next year. That is 40% of the confernece that isn't even worth discussing.

Then you add in Texas sucking and K State probably sucking and all of a sudden this conference is a steaming pile of dog crap.

Now some of these teams (OU, KSU, Texas) won't be down long, but this conference has to have some of these teams stop sucking otherwise it is going to be a problem soon.

WVU won't be god awful - not great, but not awful.

Right. A shade better than the were this year IMO. Probably an NIT team, same with OU and possibly KSU. I want to say the Tourney teams out of the Big 12 will be OSU, KU, Baylor, and ISU, not in that order. OU will be back in the mix after this rebuilding season. KSU on the other hand is on the verge of their demise. Weber had his shot this year. Free-falling to the bottom from this point on.
