Big Ten Announces Football Division and 9-Game Schedule

Big Ten Announces Football Division Alignments and Move to Nine-Game Conference Schedules - BIG TEN CONFERENCE Official Athletic Site

Looks like Iowa will have 4 home games when they host us in even numbered years and 5 when they come to Ames.

Good call by Delaney there, you can't lose to the MAC if you don't play them.

If we keep beating Iowa this will be the beginning of the end of the series. They will find a way out. Can't start the season with only 2 easily winnable games

Not so fast: Big Ten schools OK realignment, 9-game schedule - ESPN

"The league's athletic directors and presidents also approved a scheduling model that includes at least one team from a major FBS conference per year and no FCS teams. Delany hopes the model will be in place league-wide by 2016."

Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin in the West Division .................................................... and how is this a tougher division than the old Big 12 North?

It's tougher because Wisky has gone to the last 3 rosebowls.

The odds of Wisky and Nebby both being below Iowa in the same year are slim to none. Plus Iowa still has to play at least 2-3 teams from the other division.

I truly believe the score in Ames this year will be like 42-10 and Iowa will announce days later the series is over citing "scheduling conflicts."

One potential benefit of the Big Ten refusing to schedule FCS teams is that they may be cheaper for the rest of us to play, considering the drop in demand. Could save us some money.

"In the first 18 years, you're going to see a lot of competition between teams at the top of either division," Delany said. "We call that a bit of parity-based scheduling, so you'll see Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa playing a lot of competition against Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan. But it will rotate.

Wait. What? "Parity based scheduling?" If this means that teams at the top will play each other more often, then teams at the bottom will play each other more often also. Is this just a trick to avoid the top teams beating up on the teams at the bottom, thus making the bottom teams ineligible for bowls?

Iowa being considered a "top team" is a testament to the weakness of their division. That's laughable.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

id guess its hoping for the top teams to have better resumes for the cfp selection committee

I think that will be a trend. The Pac-10/12 has not played FCS schools for some time. My personal prediction is that, in the future, FBS schools will only play FCS schools in an exhibition format, possibly only during a spring game.

To the degree the bowl format is preserved, with its all important win #6, maybe the schools should put this series on hiatus. But if schedule strength becomes a big factor for playoff seeding, keeping the Cy-Hawk series in tact may be in the mutual interest.
