    Urine

Short of getting rid of my five-year-old lab altogether, does anyone have a good solution for fixing the yellow burn spots in the lawn? There are tons of so-called solutions out there, I've tried supplements, and I'd rather not till up and re-seed.

Does anyone know a way to get rid of these things that doesn't involve green spray paint, and actually works?

    Re: Urine

I'm curious about this as well. My 120lb lab generates a lot of urine....thus, a lot of burns in my 2 year old sod.

I've heard about lime working to get the soil pH back to neutral.....didn't work. Used extra water in these areas.....doesn't seem to work. I'm not going to till up and re-seed as it's just going to happen again. The spots are all right around the patio as he won't run out into the snow to spread out his whiz during the winter.

    Re: Urine

My buddy dumps water over the urine after his dog pees. Seems a little time consuming to me.

Put tomato juice in his food. That will do it. Worked for my two labs. May they rest in peace.

    Re: Urine

The best thing I've found to do is treat the source, meaning the dog, instead of the urine.

Mix parboiled rice with a little bit of tomato juice and add it to your pups food. That will help neutralize the urine before it ever reaches your yard.

My old college GF told my parents this trick years back and they've never had problems with brown spots in their yard since.

    Re: Urine

You need to find a way to rid the soil of an overabundance of nitrogen. Girlfriend is a chemist and has had some interesting ways of doing so. Diluting it with water can only do so much unfortunately.

Hey. The OP never made any specifics of how to eliminate brown spots. Eliminate the dog, eliminate the spots.

yeah that leaves alot of interpretation huh. The tomato juice stops the urine burn and they loved it. Age killed one. Cancer the other. Many years apart. As far as I know the tomato juice played no role in either death. But sticking this weeks theme - that is speculation on my part.
