    R I P George Jones

Not a big country fan but he was good.

Makes me happy I bought tickets to see Willie Nelson in a couple of weeks. Have to see them before they all die off.

    Re: R I P George Jones

My favorite song of his is "White Lightning' - which was written by the Big Bopper (of the Buddy Holly plane crash); I'm not sure if the Bopper recorded the song first, or if it was written for Jones.

I originally thought the song was an Eddie Cochran composition because for years I only knew his duet version with Gene Vincent, that the both recorded on their England tour of 1961.

It was only till last year, while listening to SIRIUS Outlaw program that Jones' version played and the DJ described the background.

I saw Willie a couple of weeks ago. I don't smoke reefer or anything else, but if there were ever an advertisement for doing it, it's Willie Nelson. He sounds fantastic and his voice is still strong for an 80 yr old. It was a great show, you'll enjoy it.

    Re: R I P George Jones

Jones was a genius and will be sorely missed. Another part of real country music dies with him. I think it's safe to say George stuck around a lot longer than anyone thought he would...

    Re: R I P George Jones

This is a huge loss for music, not just country. I only have a couple of Jones things, but have always liked his stuff. He had some really great collaborations with people over the years - all the duets with Tammy Wynette, plus Brenda Lee, Merle Haggard, and Patty Loveless. He made the single "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" by Barbara Mandrell with an uncredited guest appearance. She was on an absolute mountain top, career-wise, at that point, but you could argue that his vocal helped make it her signature song (considering he's name-dropped in the lyrics).

It's going to take Nashville a while to get over this one.

All people who make sweepingly generalized, stupid, uninformed comments are idiots.

He must have deteriorated quickly. I saw last week that he just stopped his tour. Very sad day for music.
