    Re: Your Worst Date

A long time ago a buddy of mine that I worked with had a girl that he talked about all the time who he casually dated, but I didn't know who she was. One night, I met a girl at the bar and asked her out. Then I found out it was her (from my buddy). So I went, but it was the shortest, most awkward date ever. We went out to eat, and I took her home with a really lame explanation that I had no idea that something was going on between her and my friend.

    Re: Your Worst Date

Asked a girl out that I met at a bar. Took her out to a restaurant, and did the whole wine and dine thing. Things were going well, so afterward, she asked if I wanted to come back to her place to hang out. She lived alone, so I was feeling pretty good about where the evening was headed. I agreed, and we stopped to get some alcohol on the way there. When we got to her place we chatted, listened to music, made out a little bit, and got pretty drunk. After a while she was like, "Hey, we should go into the bedroom. I've got something I want to show you." That could only mean one thing, right?

Wrong. Much to my dismay, what she wanted to show me was a series of poetry books she had written about her and her brother growing up with alcoholic parents in Wisconsin. Not that I'm not sympathetic to what turned out to be a very sad set of circumstances, but it was not really what I had in mind. 90 minutes, and 400 stanzas, later she did make a proposition for physical activity, but by that point I was too drunk and frankly, depressed.

I did see her a few more times after that, but it never really went anywhere.

    Re: Your Worst Date

This one was actually pretty recent. I had met this girl thru mutual friends at tailgating & a bar crawl. I thought she was cute, & we had fun getting drunk together so we ended up going on a date.

First we went to eat sushi (which was a first for me, & I was surprised I actually liked it). Other than the standard awkward dinner conversation that goes along with most first dates, this was harmless enough. Then we went to All Play because she wanted to try climbing the rock wall. I'm not super athletic, but I've climbed many a rock wall in my day so I just zipped right up the thing.

This girl runs half marathons & what not, so I figured she'd go right up it also.*I figured wrong... She barely made it off the damn ground! After about 3 awkward moments of her failing to climb, she gave up. The rest of the time we were together that night (about an hour) she had a ****** at the world attitude.

In hindsight I guess I should have "struggled" a little more, but how was I supposed to know she'd have the arm strength of a 4 year old?? We did not work out, & she just reaffirmed my position that all single women 28 years & up are loco.

That's pretty funny... My wife is not really athletic at all, and she was one of two at her school that was able to climb the entire wall. Surprised me that she even tried to do it.

    Re: Your Worst Date

In high school I had a serious crush on a girl I was friends with. I finally asked her on an actual date and we went to a play and out to dinner in Waterloo with some other friends. It was miserable. She pretty much didn't want to be there from what I could tell, and I remember laughing at myself internally regarding the whole situation. Turns out it was a really great way to get over a crush. Midway through the date I was actually happy as I knew I wouldn't be wasting any more effort on her... She ended up going to EIU, was/is good friends with Haluska, and marrying a wrestler. (he's also a doctor, but I don't want to give her any credit).

    Re: Your Worst Date

I aaked a young lady out repeatedly and was rejected, but I persisted. I was her boss, and in today's environment it would have been sexual harrassment, but I was a well intentioned kid with a crush. I finally got her to go out with me, it was a very awkward date, and afterwards she told me in no uncertain terms she didn't want to go out with me again. Nine months later, we were married. Tweny nine years later - divorced.

Most expensive date I've ever been on...

    Re: Your Worst Date

Tailg8er, had a friend who ran marathons, lots of them, she was incredibly thin and when we would go to the store, she would struggle to lift a jar of spaghetti sauce off the shelf.

Worst date ever was in DC. Working as an intern in the summer (no, too old to have worked for Bill Clinton), living in some dorms, and taking the bus to work on the Hill. Talked to a guy on the bus every day for a few weeks and agreed to go out with him. He was a student living at his parents house and had no car. Picked me up on the bus and we went to a burger joint in Georgetown. It was OK, he kept wanting me to drink more than the one beer I had with my burger which was not going to happen. Then he basically announced that the $5 he spent on my dinner meant he was entitled to sex. Since he lived with his parents, had no car, etc., he hoped to go to the dorm room I shared with a roommate. That was also not happening, and neither was it happening anywhere. He said he would walk me to the bus stop home, and got all aggressive in an alley, so I gave him a knee to the nuts. He tried to grab me and a couple of guys came out of a nearby bar and shoved him against the wall, and escorted me to the bus.

The next Monday on the bus, he was acting all like nothing unusual happened and asked me out again. I told him I never wanted to speak to him again. He started stalking me at work. I had to go to work an hour earlier so I would miss him on the bus.

Yea, I was young, stupid, and probably lucky. Plus, all my brothers taught me self protection.

    Re: Your Worst Date

The first couple dates I went on with my wife she invited some of her friends along. I of course make fun of her now about this, and she tries to play it off like she wasn't sure if it was a date.

Maybe I should have been more clear with the invitation and said would you like to go to a movie and please don't invite anyone.

My big takeaway from that story is that carvers4math is a girl. I was not aware of that.

Other than that, dang, that's crazy!

    Re: Your Worst Date

My worst date was my senior prom. I went with someone I had been friends with for quite a while but things seemed to be progressing toward a relationship. That all came pretty much to a screeching halt right when I picked her up. I brought a corsage for her but she had no boutonniere for me (yes I had to look up how to spell it) and I was the only guy in our group of friends that went out together without one.

The instant we get in the car to head to dinner she basically says you have zero chance of scoring tonight so just wipe the thought out of your head. Ummm, ok...I had no preconceived notion about how the night was going to go, but glad we got that out of the way...I guess.

Long story short, the entire night was a giant crash and burn and we ended up going our separate ways and not even leaving together and didn't talk again for many years after. Still don't know what happened to suddenly cause what seemed to be a budding relationship to hit a brick wall. But I wouldn't change where I am now for anything in the world so I'm sure it was for the best.
