Re: Update on Barnett over at Illinois State Board

The QB coach at the other ISU is a good friend of mine and I will see the OL coach there this weekend so I was planning on finding out how he was doing.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

I tried reading through some posts but there are too many wannabe "ISU" references.

Barrnet and accuracy were used in the same sentence. I would say Barnett and runs like a deer would be used good in a sentence. Not accuracy.

Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I play poker with the father of one of their starting O-linemen. The next time his kid is in town for a poker game, I'll ask him how JB is doing.

In some blog shortly after JB announced the transfer, here is what he had to say about his ability:

Barnett called passing accuracy “one of my stronger points. I can put the ball just about anywhere I want to. I can pull it down when the pocket closes and extend plays with my feet. I make good decisions and usually make them quick.”
I don't mean this to sound like I'm bagging on JB, but if passing accuracy was one of his stonger points, he'd still be the starter of a Big XII team.

It's strange to read that and see that Barnett may not be the starter.

We had a kid starting at a Big 12 school that might be riding the pine at an FCS program.

Not ragging on Barnett... just illustrating a tremendous talent gap that Rhoads and Co. have to work through.

Wow, and he beat #2 ranked OSU and ended the nations longest home winning streak at TCU, kinda crazy he hasn't shown more at Illinois State to be named a starter.

One of his problems has always been consistency. When he's on and can maintain decent accuracy, he can win games. When he's off, he's way off.

I thought according to footballintexas, the problem was always coaching.

In my experience, this comes from managing expectations and confidence. If he does well (i.e. Okie state), suddenly everyone praises him as the next savior of the Cyclones. And he knows once he slips up he will be the anti-****** to all of us. Thats a LOT of pressure going into the next game. More pressure = over-thinking about what your doing as opposed to acting on instincts and muscle memory.

I'm not bagging on Paul Rhoads or his decisions in anyway. But I think we all need to realize we will not have a Brandon Weedon come through here anytime soon. Quarterbacks will have their good days and bad. All you can do is that the good happens more often than the bad.

Meh, he's only been on campus since January. The guy he's battling with should have the edge right now. That thread didn't tell us much anyway. All I know is JB won games at Iowa State that most QBs in my 25 yrs of fandom never did.
