Cyclones add a post in Rosie Gambino

I guess this is why we have so much faith in BF. He has found a post, whose stats look pretty decent. Coming out of JC, Rosie Gambino will be more mature than out of high school. Of course, the transition from JC to B12 is always a question, as it can be pretty rough and tumble, but in any case, I am sure Hallie is delighted by the help up front. Wonder if Bill stops here, or is looking at others?

Rosie's shot blocking ability could go as long way to improving our defense. Griner in the middle made Baylor's other defenders look better than they really were. If your on the perimeter with a shot blocker behind you, you can defend the three point shot a lot tougher because someone is behind you in case OU get beat off he dribble. Hopefully, made can get to the same point to clog up the middle and give us 10 fouls to burn at the 5 spot. I really believe Gambino gives BF more flexibility with the other four spots on the court.

Whatever advantage she provides at the defensive end will likely be offset, possibly moreso, at the offensive end. It will likely be 4 on 5 with her in the line-up just like when Stuckey and Schroll were around. It bogged down the offense significantly.

Sagging off of a guard that isn't an outside scoring threat is a little different than leaving someone in the paint to go cheat on defense.

It's going to be worse when a post can't score. Her defender is going to stay on the lane and effectively cut off almost all driving opportunities due to the lack of spacing. That enables the perimeter defenders to guard our perimeter players even tighter because they know they have readily available help defense in the lane.

Gambino was discussed in a previous thread:
    http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...a-gambino.html

    Here are her stats:
    NJCAA Stats

She was a 47% shooter! She didn't rack up the points, but it's not like she shot 20% and can't make a basket. She can score -- no one is going to leave a 6-4 player open around the basket. And if they do, great, she might start putting up numbers.

Fennelly doesn't take many transfers. He must think that she will fit well into his program. If a player buys into his program, he seems to get the most from them.

Re: Cyclones add a post in Rosie Gambino

According to her stats, she only played 12 minutes per game? Is that accurate? Obviously the team she was on was pretty good, but the miutes tells me she was a back-up post player.

-Be kind. That is something you will never regret. You will never say to yourself when you are old "I wish I was not good to that person".

Re: Cyclones add a post in Rosie Gambino

She was definitely not a back up post player. Ames Trib article referred to her as a starter. Also, it would be common sense that she wouldn't be a D1 prospect to schools like Michigan State or ISU if she were a backup. She was the only player over 6' on the team.

The stats are messed up. I discussed it here:

I will not underestimate the girls Bill brings in.. Poppens is the best example and then you look at past years and all the players he has brought in.. almost all exceed expectations

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
