Nintendo R.B.I. Baseball tournament in Omaha

For the retro gamers out there...

    -Saturday May 18th
at the 13th Street Brick house Bar.
2202 South 13th street. Omaha, Nebraska. Just north of Sokol Auditorium
-$10 entry fee, with top players winning cash. Pay when you arrive.
-10:30 AM registration, with competition begging shortly after 11.

The Brickhouse does not serve food, but you are welcome to bring your own during the competition, or order food in. There is at least 6-8 food establishments very close by.

    Competition set up:
    - The preliminary round will feature 5 to 6 games for each competitor. This will determine the top players who reach the tournament.
-The tournament will feature approximately 10 to 12 players, (depending on the turnout) and they will be seeded accordingly.
-The opening round for the lowest seeds will be a single elimination game.
-For the final 8 competitors in the tournament, best of 3 series play will ensue, with best of 5 in the championship round.
-Numerous teams and match-ups will be used throughout the whole competition.

Team Selection process throughout:-The player to win a coin flip will randomly select a team. The other player will verbally name an opposing team. The winner of the coin flip then decides which team he wants to use. The other player then decides if he chooses to be road (bat 1st) or home.

Game play rules:-Anything goes style pitching. All 4 pitchers are available for each game.
-Infield fly rule can be agreed upon by both parties, but can not enforced by officials.
-A game malfunction after 7 innings, results in the team with the lead being awarded a win. This basically never happens, but it needs to be addressed. Otherwise a tie game is ruled as no contest, and the participants start the game over.

If interested post here or PM me if you need more details.

This is pretty sweet, too bad I have a wedding that weekend.

I think a crafty pitcher will win this, that or a VERY patient batter, which I am neither. This is awesome though, can I skip a wedding for this?

Will RBI Baseball 3 be allowed, or just the original?

Farnsy, I would start a MKart64 tournament with you. My dorm floor had Goldeneye tournaments, too, and they were amazing.

I'm planning another one in August. I'll look you up then. If nothing else, stop by for a little while if time allows to check out the competition.

I don't have the best RBI eye, but you simply just have to train yourself to take some pitches every at bat. Once you get a pitcher tired, he starts throwing beach balls out there. RBI is an "arms race" of sorts. You need to tire them out before your guys do.

A few years back the Cleveland Indians were playing a ton of RBI in their clubhouse. A few guys got mad because they couldn't lay off the garbage, and would strike out a ton. Its a part of RBI. Make the pitcher throw strikes, and you will be much better off.

I played in a Super Tecmo Bowl tourney in Madison a few years ago. Pretty much considered the national tournament. (I know that sounds geeky)

Ill put any dollar that if I get this ball again, Long said, Its going in.
    - Naz Long to Markel Brown before hitting the game tying shot.

We are only rocking the original RBI at this.

You mean the national tourney that the NFL network did a 30 minute special about? Nerdy indeed, but that's a serious competition and the winner probably won hundreds of dollars, if not a thousand. They had nearly 180 in that last year, when the NFL network on hand.

The national RBI tourney is in Chicago this year. $100 entry fee, and 16 players. Winner gets something like $750. 2nd place through 4th place in the money.

Not sure if it was the same one or not. I know they have it every year, when I went it was 4 or 5 years ago. IIRC they had 70 or more people, and there were people from all over America. The person that won it was from Detroit, and he reminded me of Radio (the movie), but he was amazing. I thought I was good, but these were the best of the best. I won 1 and lost 2 and didn't make the next round.

This is so cool! Give me Boston and I won't be beat. Tony Armas off the bench hits more home runs than any one.

The one that was on NFL network was the tourney in 2012. The guy you reference as radio might be Francis Buenage (aka Mort)...based off the documentary. The documentary focused on him along with about 5 others. Francis is featured at the 8 minute mark in the video below. I've read that the guys always finishes near or at the top in these competitions.

Boston is stout. Their bench is incredibly good. They leave a lot be desired in the pitching department. RBI baseball always reminded me of those early 90's Tigers teams. A ton of bombers who would strike out a lot. Rob Deer having more homers than singles that one year, is similar to what some of the big time sluggers in RBI do.

I set the competition up so you have to be good with a lot of different teams. On some other forums, I keep hearing the same thing about "gimme team X and I'll dominate". You need to be good with the lesser teams as well in this tourney setting. Minnesota, New York, and San Fran type teams. Win the dreaded Houston vs St Louis game. That's when you see a difference between the guy who is good with a good team, and those who excel with any team.

I love the Mets. Pretty crappy batting line-up but nasty pitching staff that can dominate anyone.
