    Recent Home Matches and Upcoming

So, we went 2-1 in our Tourney, losing two close sets with Minnesota. Didn't see this before.

The thing I found of interest was that they played UNI, now they turn around and have a split Tourney in Minnesota, playing UNI again. They'll be sick of playing each other. I wonder if they run everything, or hold something back for the fall?

I don't know much about volleyball, just like to watch and follow the team, but I would think with a new setter to break in that they would run as close to what they will run once fall comes around (less the incoming freshman who are not present).

Re: Recent Home Matches and Upcoming

I went to the matches, we looked pretty good. Hurtt was in a boot and didn't play and Knuth was in sweats(didn't play) for some reason. Jenelle looks really good at setter, she's very athletic. It's was against UNI or Minn. that she had 2 solo blocks(she got ups). Morgan Kuhrt and Natalie Vondrak impressed me the most; Kuhrt calmly put away kills at the end of the Minn. game without looking nervous. Vondrak has a lot of energy and that helps cuz she's an undersized middle; she could be a good spark-plug off the bench.

I too was impressed with Hudson at setter. We did not get to see her that much in that position last fall, or only in isolated situations, so it was kind of a question mark. She did a really nice job distributing the ball and putting it where they could hit it. She also has a quick little dump across the net that goes straight down. Looks like the team will be in good hands with her leading the offense.

Re: Recent Home Matches and Upcoming

Tomorrow will be the third week in a row that UNI and Minnesota will play. The ISU/UM match was as intense a spring match as I have seen in a long time. I also officiated the match, which was the 5th time working for UM and Coach McCutcheon in two weeks. The first 4 were very calm and mellow, but the match with ISU was something different. He clearly felt that something of consequence was on the line. The schedule for the day only had UM playing two sets for each scheduled match (instead of three), ostensibly because of a shortage of competitive players, but during the second set - he walked over to Christy and asked if she wanted to play a third set in the event of a split. She of course agreed, but then UM came from behind to win the 2nd set.

I was also impressed with Jenelle. Her delivery and location were very good. I saw at least four solo stuff blocks on the day.

As I read the article about today's matches we are in a round robin that does not include UM. It does have UM Concordia, which is a perennially good Div II team, that has won several national championships.

Anyone get over to watch the matches? I see that Div II Concordia beat us.

Didn't see it, but if Bria Rassmussen led in digs, I would guess Kristen played limited time if at all. Same for several of the veterans. That said, Concordia is a very good program, having won six straight Div II championships.
