Pat Summerall Passes at age 82

    Pat Summerall Dead At 82

I always liked him, the straight man to John Madden's craziness.

Eyes closed, head first, can't lose.

    ''Oh no! There's a man down.'' - Pat Summerall - Madden 64.

I loved this guy when he was in the booth. Had such a classic, easy to listen to voice. For some reason though, I can only think of that line when a player got injured in Madden 64. He was a legend in the broadcasting booth and will be missed.

Understated and a perfect balance to Madden

We're losing a great generation of sports broadcasters

...and Brent Musburger ain't on the list of great broadcasters

So would rather listen to him than about anybody out there now.

Not only was he a great football commentator, but he was really great commentating tennis. The US Open tennis was not the same after he departed.

Will always remember that distinct voice. Was not too much of a Madden fan. Thought Summerall captained that ship. Had forgot he did tennis - that is a very good call. Really, would probably had watched a game of chess he called, at least just a little bit, to hear his unique voice/call of the action.

Almost the same as Keith Jackson for college football. Just dating myself, I suppose.

He coached Burt Reynolds while at Florida St ?? Now I realize FSU wasn't the powerhouse it is now, but still that is cool trivia.

He was one of the guys that I wish more broadcasters would sit and study. The guy would call a game and it was seemless. You almost didn't realize he was even there. Half the time today I'm saying, "Shut up so I can watch the game!" Pat wasn't like that. The man was awesome at what he did. He will be greatly missed.
