And if "rules are rules", then why shouldn't Tiger conform to the new rule about not DQ'ing someone who unintentionally commits an infraction?

This would be like in college basketball, a player gets a technical foul, and then says to the official.... "you know what, I actually deserve 2 technicals for what I did, so I'm kicking myself out of the game."
I feel like I'm on the correct side with a response like this. ^^^

agreed... It is a game of honor from self reporting. IMO tiger was wrong on he drop, he admitted to an advantage. I believe tiger needs to step up by withdrawing.

Sounds like the new rule (concerning signing an incorrect scorecard not meaning an automatic DQ) does not apply here then. Thanks.

Look, I can't stand Tiger. I'm not going to get into the should he dq himself or not argument.

But I will say, this "TV viewers calling in penalties" BS has to stop. Make the rules officials watch. If somebody on the grounds can't catch it then it should be like a missed call in every sport.

Eh....Tiger brought this on himself with his post round interview. He clearly state he dropped it further back to gain an advantage. Dont' tell me Tiger doesn't know the rules of the game. He's been playing on the PGA for 15 years.

    Hopefully, Tiger doesn't win.

Fine. Whatever. The review was still initially cause by some weekend duffer with cheetoh's dust all over his fingers calling in from his couch.

This happens over and over in other situations in other tournaments. Situations where guys don't admit anything in interviews. And it is "fertilizer" in the words of Vin Scully.

Until every shot, by every player is on TV, you can't let the TV audience call in penalties, all they see are the popular guys. Even then it's still BS.

I don't like that it was brought to the attention of the officials by someone watching at home, reviewed, and deemed fine. Then, after his interview, they decide to review it again and access him a two stroke penalty. After they reviewed the 15th hole and Tiger signed his scorecard the matter should have been over.

That rule was for honest mistakes that are caught on "HD" TV. Is wasn't an honest mistake. Read the blog posted above.

Tiger is good enough he could have dropped it in the same place and taken a little off of it. These rules screw people over. Like the Dustin Johnson one a couple years ago at Whistling Straits. Golf is done on those course, not off it so stop letting outside factors result in an a different outcome.

Here is the Dustin Johnson one:

Faldo's just ****** that Tiger gets to benefit from rule changes, particularly rule 33, that weren't in place while he was an active golfer. The PGA determined that Tiger's card was correct when he signed it. It wasn't until well after the fact that Tiger was assessed the 2 stroke penalty, making his card incorrect. Rule 33 protects him from being disqualified in this scenario. And this is where Faldo should shut the hell up, because if rule 33 was in place when he was an active golfer, there is no way in hell he would do the "honorable thing" and disqualify himself, and thus no way should Tiger disqualify himself.

When I was watching this yesterday the announcers first said it's a "yellow" hazard so Tiger has one of five options. Than they said, no it's a "red" hazard meaning he has one of three options. They mentioned what he did AS an option. Than after he hit the shot they said , oops, it's really a yellow hazard but yellow has three option not five. Total cluster **** and these experts had no idea. Turns out that almost perfect shot that hit the flag stick and ricocheted into the water is going to be a four stroke swing.

I think it's funny that golf wants to be this traditional sport and keep things the way they've always been and then they let people call in infractions from their couches while watching their hdtvs.

Eyes closed, head first, can't lose.

    a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played
