    That was for grounding his club in a "bunker." The other key difference is that Johnson was assessed the penalty before the round was complete. Tiger signed an incorrect scorecard, which is a dq offense.

    Even if you sign an incorrect scorecard you are not automatically DQ'd. THe rule was amended last year.

    Those guys are a bunch of jealous idiots. Faldo is a joke. He just wishes his career was even half as good as Tiger's.

    If Faldo is so smart, then why didn't he notice that Tiger committed a rule violation when he did it?

    And if "rules are rules", then why shouldn't Tiger conform to the new rule about not DQ'ing someone who unintentionally commits an infraction?

    This would be like in college basketball, a player gets a technical foul, and then says to the official.... "you know what, I actually deserve 2 technicals for what I did, so I'm kicking myself out of the game."

    They want him to Dairy Queen himself because golf is one of the only sports where you can assess penalties against yourself. It is an honorable sport- since many times others dont see rule infractions you penalize yourself. I think that is what this is all about.

    That's exactly it. They discussed Ben Hogan (I think) calling a penalty on himself that cost him a major when no one else saw it. It's not about whether he deserves it, but about the integrity of the game. I'm really not sure what my opinion is, but I can see both sides of the argument. Just unfortunate.
