Who is/was the NCAA rules comppliance officer the last 5 years?

I haven't seen any discussion of this in the mainstream media, or on this site. Am sure it has been discussed repeatedly here and I will be barbecued for asking this "stupid" question. But, help me out here. Who is the staff person that is required to do compliance monitoring as their major job function? Have they been booted out the door yet? If not, why not? Thanks.

The amount and minutia of rules and recordkeeping related to compliance are so over-the-top, as if logging dropped calls will keep Auburn from having recruiting advantage$. The real advantage$ $till probably take place out$ide the $y$tem.

Re: Who is/was the NCAA rules comppliance officer the last 5 years?

I think Dustin Gray is in charge of compliance but I could be wrong.

And the compliance director can only do so much. They don't have time to sift through every phone record. If they administer the exams properly to coaches and administrators there's not much else they can do besides continuing education. It's on the coaches to ensure compliance in their respective sports.

Compliance deals a lot more with the student athletes than they do the coaching staffs (confirming transcripts, eligibility requirements, drug testing, extravagant purchases, etc.) and even then their work is only as good as the people giving them information. If someone buys a new vehicle or something else that's a large sum of money they're supposed to go to compliance and show where the money to finance the purchase was from, where payments are being made from, etc. If that doesn't happen their hands are tied.

I don't think they actively seek out violations. A lot of it is something where Coach Rhoads has a question, e-mails compliance, gets clarification, and reports back if he knows there's something wrong or in question. If he knows something is wrong, compliance steps in and does the investigation because it's supposed to be impartial on Iowa State and the NCAA.
I'm guessing the compliance office sent out some nice e-mails to the athletics department the past few months.

Compliance supposedly sent out an email about LOGGING EVERY CALL in July 2008. (according to the Bryce Miller's Register column after the 590 page report was released.)

Apparently it didn't have a huge impact.

two things I learned working in athletics. 1) the athletes who should be listening to academic counselors rarely do. 2) coaches almost never listen to compliance because they have a better way or can plead "I did not know" if caught. I would not fry compliance on this one.

Does "I did not know" work in athletics? It doesn't work anywhere else.

The buck does stop with Pollard, but Pollard hires a compliance officer to deal with compliance.
