Hey Chris, I think you pulled some of the wrong scholarship numbers off that chart, using men's scholarship numbers for women's sports (gymnastics, volleyball).

    Thanks, Chris! Quick thoughts:
    1. I knew the role Fred played. That's impressive.
    2. I had no idea that volleyball only has 4.5 scholarships.

I disagree with Rick Brown, in that I don't see the point in Leath and Pollard sitting down to "answer questions until every last one is answered." This isn't a rogue program issue. It's bad reporting, and a coach that solved the problem the second he learned of it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Thanks for the detailed report on this Chris. Unlike some media outlets "cough cough eastern Iowa media cough cough" who make it sound like ISU did something horrendously bad and make it seem the NCAA will lay a huge penalty for ISU athletics.

Ha. No. But other schools do. Ones that do have the sport get 4.5 scholarships per team for it.

I agree with you. If you actually read the report, it answers A LOT of questions that you could possibly come up with. If your only questions were about the transparency of the entire situation...

I don't want to get off topic, but how can you have half a scholarship?

I THINK that works by splitting scholarships. Like in golf as an example - it is pretty rare for one kid to have a full-ride. Works that way in wrestling too. So one kid gets half a scholarship, another gets a third or whatever. Make sense?

The scholarship is based on the total cost of attendance at the university. It it costs 50K for a full scholarship, the coach could give someone 25K. Men's volleyball isn't a headcount sport so you can give straight up amount of money or % of a total cost of attendance.

After reading about this, my question is: how much time do coaches have to spend on documenting these things? It doesn't seem that it would be insignificant if you have to document phone calls when you didn't even reach the kid. All this stuff seems rather silly.

Thanks for some balanced information Chris.

The Rag wants transparency for everyone except themselves when they layoff a bunch of folks. They never address that the institution is limited by what the NCAA allows as well on that.

Yeah, that is the media being the media. They demand answers, whether there are any real questions or not.
