    Tell me about Carroll

Well guys, I just accepted a job in Carroll after graduation in May! Problem is, the only time I have ever been there was for my interview and I don't know a dang thing about the town. I guess more specifically I don't know anything about where to live. I'm not really looking to buy a house right out of college so I'm probably looking to rent either a house or an apartment. Anybody know of any areas or renters that are good or should be avoided? Also, is there anything in general that I should know about the town or surrounding area? Thanks!

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

I've never been to Carroll, so take this with an entire beach worth of salt. The only guys I've ever met that used the phrase "That guy ***'d me!!" (think Judaism) were all from Carroll. I'm sure the entire town isn't like that.

Everyone I know from Carroll works at subway. So I expect there to be like 8 of them.

Sorry, never been, but just wanted to wish good luck with the new job as it's encouraging to hear a college grad who actually received an offer in this economy! Congrats!

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

I haven't been there since college which was the 80's cause I am ancient. Seemed like a nice town then. Went with a friend from school who was very normal and her family was all nice. Doesn't help much. Happy to see you got a job you want in Iowa though.

Grain of salt here too, but Carroll isn't big by any means. I dont think there will be a "bad" area.

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

Carroll is a nice town with some decent eateries. I got a speeding ticket there once for going 55 10 feet before the sign. I also enjoy stopping at the Caseys on my way through. Thats the extent of my Carroll knowledge.

Never been, but what I've heard is they have Catholics, a big slow pitch softball tournament, and a very pleasant gentleman's club.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

We have family in the area. Carroll is a great smallish town. Feels a little bigger than it actually is because it's the biggest town in that area. My only concern is every time up into that area (and even further on near Wall Lake, Breda and Auburn) is that I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere. While that's refreshing occasionally I question if I could handle it 24/7/365

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

I have some friends in Carroll, been there quite a few times, but it's either been a trip into the center of town, or just drinking at their house then cabbing it to the hotel. From what I know of the town, it doesn't seem like you are going to run into a lot of issues with bad places to live. I'd just look fof a place close to where you think you'll be hanging out most or a quick drive to work. I've always had a great time when I've been there.

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

Grew up in a small town where Carroll was the closest town that had a Wal Mart or any other type of fast food/"large town" type stuff.

It was also the closest movie theater to my hometown. It has the best McDonalds I've ever been to. That's about it.

Almost forgot the most important part, Rancho Grande. Probably not much different than La Fuente or El Azteca, but it was awesome when I was in high school 4-5 years ago since that was all that was in the area.

Anytime I think of Carroll all that comes across my mind is that place and I've only been there once. That place has a lasting impression for any visitors and not in a good way

    Re: Tell me about Carroll

Carroll is pretty sweet. For only having 10,000 people, it has a lot of "bigger" (relatively speaking) amenities because there is no other big town in the vicinity.
