    Kiah Stokes for Connecticut

Too bad the Connecticut coach kept running up the score in the WBB national championship. Hoped to see Kiah Stokes from Linn-Mar play more.

I don't want to hear about running up the score in a national championship.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Bet she could have played more if she had gone to one of the local programs.

Yes, I wish she had stayed in the state. You know you are good when you get a scholarship from Connecticut. Hope she gets to step up next year.

Bet she would have won less national championships though...

Yeah, it is kind of hard to tell somebody not to take a scholarship from the perennially best team in the country.

You had to look quick because she only played 4 minutes.

    Re: Kiah Stokes for Connecticut

FYI, there was an article in Tuesday's DM Register concerning her. The gist of the article seemed that she needed to show more in practice to get coach's confidence and develop more consistency. The article also mentioned the subject of transferring. Read it and draw your own conclusions. Can't fault her for taking the UConn scholarship, but she should have known playing time would be highly competitive. Seems very similar to Greenfield situation at Stanford. Even though it's nice to be on a national championship team, athletes want to play and IMO, playing is a higher priority.

    Re: Kiah Stokes for Connecticut

Doubtful Kiah will see the court next year for much time with Dolson, Stewart, and Tuck returning, especially when she doesn't see the court with Dolson seriously injured.

Kiah had a huge upside, but many thought her talent was a little raw.

Who knows, maybe she is content with not playing and having a trophy. On the flipside, both her or Taylor would have been stars at ISU or Iowa. Kiah would probably also have seen playing time at TN if she had taken that offer.

I just can waste my precious limited articles on that. Oh Des Moines Register, thanks for making me get my stories elsewhere.

    Re: Kiah Stokes for Connecticut

I read an article from an east coast paper that indicated she was held back by a nagging injury last year and unfortunately it seems as though they sort of recruited over her. At this point it seems her options are to transfer or be content to be an also-ran on the UCONN roster.

    FIFY!

Of course, she could have done that in-state as well!

They work plenty hard for that education, I wouldn't call it free.

    Re: Kiah Stokes for Connecticut

It will be interesting to see how the experience of a national championship affects her. I would love to see her making significant contributions for an elite team. Of course, now she faces the squeeze from stars already on the team and the next set of star recruits. The UConn center certainly established herself during the tournament.
