    Kicker This Year

Maybe I've just been missing it, but I haven't heard much about the kicking competition this year. Netten or Arceo?

Arceo was the object of a lot of discontentedness last year. I hope he has improved on his accuracy and consistency.

    Re: Kicker This Year

Arceo ended up being pretty decent in the second half of the year if I remember right.

Did I read some where that Arceo got a scholarship this year?

Arceo had a pretty good ending to last season so I would say it will be him.

    Re: Kicker This Year

arceo did get a scholly from what i have heard. i thought he was pretty good last year. missed a couple XPs early on, but i believe he only missed one FG inside of 40 yds last year IIRC. easily had the distance on a 57 yarder against iowa but just missed to the left

Kicker discussions are only reserved for after a guy misses.

Doesn't matter who is kicking, I'll be clinching my butt cheeks every time they walk on the field for a field goal or a PTA. Too much history with ISU and kickers.

I was about to say the same thing....until we have someone like Mason Crosby come through, ISU fans will always be sensitive to missed kicks or just the kicking game in general.

I think the job is Arceo's to lose.

    Netten's time will come.

    Re: Kicker This Year

Arceo is a senior and did enough to win the job IMO so it's his to lose. the XP unit cannot miss like they did last year though. I can't solely blame Arceo, yes he missed them but some were TERRIBLE snaps/holds. Netten is the kicker of the future and just a RS freshman. I feel good this year that if Arceo doesn't deliver like he did late last year then we can throw Netten out there to try w/o worrying about burning his RS. It was nice to have a non-scholly kicker last year do well enough to let us RS our kicker of the next 3-4 years.

I agree with this, but am a little disappointed. We have all been hoping that Rhoads has been bringing in the recruits that will bring us to the next level(I realize this is only a kicker, but this has been the same at other positions). Yet the supposed upgrades never seem to beat out an incumbent for a spot. They are simply inheriting them upon graduation, and that does not seem like upgrading, more like simply getting similar results. I would like to eventually get some scholie players that demand time immediately, and are not simply forced into it a few years later.

Call me silly for hoping a guy that Rhoads recruited as a kicker and gave a scholarship to would be better than a guy who showed up for practice one day and said" I want to try and walk on." I realize Arceo has gotten better and earned a scholie, but I would still like a guy Rhoads picked to take the lead for this spot.

becasue football is a sport of strength and experience. The freshman may have what it takes to someday be a much better player, but right now the guy with 4 more years in the weight room and on the field time is probably the better option. It isnt like we are bringing in 5 star talents, and it isnt like basketball where the recruits spend all year playing AAU ball against all the other top talent.

Huh? When have we had a kicker with the accuracy he showed last season?

I think it was the extra points that threw everyone off. That's what people remember, the bad kicks. I understand when things are bad and kickers are constantly missing, but most college kickers aren't going to the NFL. get a guy that can hit consistently within 40 and that's really all you need. The extra points though, have to be made and that's what I think is the sour taste people have. Other than that, he was solid. Our problem is moving the ball far enough to give him a chance to kick.
